Me and a buddy at work have a bit of a debate going....

He says "Kar-mull", but in my heart of hearts I know it's actually "Kare-ah-mell".

So what do you guys think? Do you respect the nobility of the "a" in caramel, or do you reject it's evil ways?

Is it "Kar-mull"?

Or, is it "Kare-ah-mell"

Don't be afraid to vote for "Kar-mull" if that's what you really believe. It's ok to be wrong sometimes.

I need some numbers on this one.

May be southern. But not stupid.

X2

I'm sure there are occasions where I've been too lazy to throw that extra "a" in there, but it's definately there for a reason.

How can you question and reject the sanctity of ages-old Southern dialectial tradition? Isn't it Karmel Apple pie? Karmel apples? Karmel toffee?:P

Surely we can bend pronunciation just a bit for the Old South. Can't we?

Ya'all ain't frum around hear air ye?

Born in New Orleans. Raised in the Mississippi Delta. Live here. That's about as Southern as Kare-ah-mell apple pie.

I'm quite certain of the correct way to say it. Not that there's anything 'wrong' with saying it the other way. Some of my best friends say it the other way...:taunt:

So you go both ways?

ROFL HAHAHAHAH (COMPUTER HITS FLOOR FOLLOWED BY BODY HITTING FLOOR) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I have probably said both... Probably in the same conversation, to the same person. I found myself saying it out loud both ways to try to convince myself which one I say more.

Oh, and I was born, bred and chicken fried steak fed right here in good 'ole TN. :taunt: Although, my job is moving me to Miami. But I have a real bad accent, and I just look at someone that comments and shake my head. I know where I'm from, and damn proud of it.

No. In fact, I'll admit to feeling a little uncomfortable when the guy at starbucks repeats the order for my wife's caramel machiatto on Sunday morning and corrects me by saying "Oh you'd like a care-ehhh-mel machiatto. Would you like whipped cream with that."

Sounds like the dude is as bitter as his coffee.

Next time tell him - You say tuh-mey-toh I say 'toe-mah-toe'. Correct me again and see how much of a tip you get.:taunt:

Man, I don't know what they do to some of their blends of coffee. It's like they roast them with a blow torch or something. I think I could leave my coffee in the pot for a week and not have it come out that bitter.

I'll give it to them, though. They took an admirable stand for a Seattle based company recently when they publically said they wouldn't post their stores. I'm not an open carrier, but am glad I'll be able to continue to go to coffee with friends on Friday morning without worrying about them posting.

Is it bad that I almost always say "mater" instead of either one of those, but yet I say the word in question as kare-ah-mell?

Yeah, I support them in theory due to their stance on 2A, but not so much in practice. If there's any other choice, I'll take it over Starbucks. That chemically engineered witches brew is not for me. I guess I'm just a fan of the ole fashioned greasy spoon coffee.... :taunt:
