Ok, just bought a Finn Mosin, and want it checked out by a pro b4 shooting.

Prefer to be safe than sorry...

Anyway - The gunsmith I would take it to, does not have the head spacing tools and firing pin gauge necessary to ensure it is safe to shoot.

So. Suggestions? Mid-TN area please. Nashville area preferred...

^^What he said.

Matching-number Mosins, 99% of the time, do not have head spacing problems. There is that rare 1%. My Dad has the head spacing gauges, but I doubt he knows where they are right now. Does it chamber a round OK, without any hitches, hiccups, or stickyness? Does the bolt go into, and out of, battery without any problems? If all that works fine then I would say it is safe to fire.

In my limited experiences I have never heard of a Mosin being out of wack to the point it was unsafe to shoot.

Who did you get it from? I have been reading up on Finn rifles and captures lately.

Should be a good rifle.

Even if numbers don't match, when the parts were married up it would all have been made good then.

Put up some pictures.

Ok. I am gonna have to figure out how to upload pics. You might have Finn envy...

Yeah, the smith I was going to take it to said for me not to worry, and go shoot it. It is a Finn match - barrel and bolt match... Finns really didnt care much about matching the other parts.

I have a M39 SK.Y dated 1942 barrel and stock. The Receiver is Tula and dated 1897 (on the tang... You bet I checked...) So, I have a rare pre-1899 antique - :taunt:

It has lost most of the bluing and the stock is rough. But, it sure does feel good in the hand...

I got it from gunsnammo.com After reading up and looking at reviews, it seems I may have lucked out, as they are hit and miss. From what I can tell, empirearms.com has a great reputation. And they have a good selection of Finns starting at around $300...
