This is really off topic, but I figured some folks on here might could help me out. I have a 2002 Chevrolet Z71 that is in need of some new front door speakers. I know nothing about car audio stuff, so I am looking for some advice regarding which speakers may be better than others. I am not looking for top of the line stuff; just something that will produce good sound at a reasonable price. Thanks for the help.

$50 maybe, I really do not know if anything could be had at that price. Like I said I know nothing about this stuff. I do not want to go super cheap, but I am also not worried about getting the best stuff there is either.

If you're trying to stay that cheap, you can look at Kenwood, Pioneer, or Sony. Take a look at your local Best Buy, Electronic Express, or even Wal-Mart.

If you can find the extra scratch (roughly double the price), take a look at Infinity, Alpine, or Polk Audio.

Thanks man, I guess I need to do a little research. They have been busted for about a year, so I can spare some time to do some research.

Make sure you measure the existing speakers and get the right size. Wally World has decent prices on a few of the brands mentioned above. You cant go wrong with Sony or Pioneer.

But you CAN get too cheap and have to do a re-install sooner than you want. It really is a crapshoot regarding what will give you the best performance.

Just go for some Rockford Fosgates and get it over with... My car came with them stock... Amazing sound. Amazing speakers.

I like how crutchfield you can put in your year make model and it will show what they got. I am disappointed that there is not plug in use your existing radio with a HD radio adaptor thingy for my model.

I need to upgrade mine in the Jeep, they are fine but no bass and when you have to crank up the volume, like when the top is off, you can get distortion if you don't turn the bass level down. I'm hoping I can upgrade my roll bar speakers and dash speakers and get more bass without adding an amp.

Check out Crutchfield.com for sure to read review, find sizes, etc, then buy them cheaper somewhere else. Although, Crutchfield used to send you the wiring harness for free.

What he ^ said.

Honestly, double the price is worth it. I've had a set of Infinitys in my car for nearly 10 years. They still sound excellent.

Crutchfield is great for telling you what will and will not fit. Their prices tend to be toward the high end.

The best option is to put high pass filters in-line with the speakers and add a powered sub. Door sized speakers simply aren't big enough to throw much bass.

That's the key to long-lasting speakers.

X2

But I will also add that no matter what you do, when driving down the road in a Jeep with the top down, you will lose most, if not all bass.

IMHO I would think his best option would be to concentrate more on the quality of the door speakers so that he can get more sound with the volume at lower levels, or maybe an upgraded radio, and not worry about trying to get more bass.

Hey I have to have a little bass, currently there is none, negative almost. Besides, as mentioned in other threads, I need a little so that I can embarrass my 11yr old daughter when we roll up at school.

Dash, Infinity Reference 6022si 6-1/2" shallow 2-way car speakers For 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com

Roll Bar: Infinity Reference 6032si 6-1/2" shallow-mount 2-way car speakers — for 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" openings at Crutchfield.com

They come with the adapter bracket for installation which is good, don't want to fabricate anything. The tweeters have to have a mount fabricated. I ll have to find that before I upgrade those.

I hate radio, especially Memphis radio, the stations suck. All of them. Would like to do the HD adapter but nothing for me yet, I might end up buying a Iphone at some point and then I would buy the control adapter and stream in Pandora Interweb radio.

end rant.

Erased random word "roll bar," that got missed during editing.

I had infinity door speakers in my 4runner. They sounded great but they blew 3 times. Thank god I bought the extended warranty.

I had 4 channel amp powering 2 of the speakers and the other 2 channels were going to a 10"sub. Thats probably why they blew.

If I were you, I would just get some basic speakers like pioneer but then invest in a decent amp to power them, you would be amazed how nice they will sound.

I have the 6022's in my car. They sound excellent driven by the factory radio. I'd add some high-pass filters and one of the powered subs. The low-profile or custom enclosures are nice if space is an issue. That should provide more than adequate daughter embarrassment.

dats82,

There are a number of choices for $50 but remember the speakers are responsible for turning the electrical energy from the receiver into mechanical energy. With that said, even if you have a very expensive receiver it is only going to sound as good as the speakers. If $50 is all you have to spend then I would save a little while longer or ask around and see if any one has any good used (higher quality) speakers for sale.
