East Tn TGO Members JANUARY 2008 Meet

Recommended Posts

Won't there be trouble with a pellet scop on a rimfire rifle? Even with the slight recoil I thought that air gun scopes just won't hold zero on cartridge rifles.

At any rate Cody i am looking forward to seeing you shoot it.

I'm thinkin it's the other way around. I think Pellet rifles vibrate more and knock it out??

Weather is supposed to be chilly. I have access to propane heaters. I don't know if the Oak Ridge range is heated as I have never been there. I probably have some mostly full 100 lb. propane tanks! Would I need to bring one or more?

Thanks to wareagle I now have a job. Unfortunately all my weekends are spoken for now. I'm thinking about joining ORSA so I can shoot my rifles without having to wait for East TGO meets lol.

If you want to join ORSA you will need a sponsor. Give me a holler and I'll be happy to sign your application for you. Then you'll have to meet me on the 600 yd line of the 1K range and we'll see how them rifles shoot- offhand, using the irons.

That would be cool... well, warm cause we ain't heated. The covered firing points are along a line that is 28 feet long and 12 feet deep. The tin roof is 10-12 feet above the gravel floor. I've been thinking about puting a blue tarp along the back to keep the breeze out.

This time I'll get the leaf blower out and we'll run the Great Golf Ball Chase again. Also the Pigeon Competition. I'm currently out of the ICE targets and don't know if they'll be in by then but maybe we can run some IDPA scenarios for the pistolero's among us. Possibly a 3 gun course.

Yeah, it's the other way around.

Anchored Optics

Anchored optics are optics that are anchored front and back to handle the forward and backward recoil caused by the mainspring's movement. Recoil in a spring airgun is different than recoil in a firearm in the sense that it isn't only the amount of recoil that matters, but the direction of the recoil as well. Mainsprings cause an airgun to recoil backward and forward while firearms only recoil in a backward direction. It is this two-direction recoil that can cause damage to non-airgun rated scopes.

Scopes designed for firearms have optics anchored to handle the backward movement of the recoil. Airgun scopes require that optics be anchored to handle the two-way recoil generated by the mainspring.

Thanks for the offer I'll be in touch when I get enough time to get serious about joining.

That depends on the size of the barn we're shooting at :)

I'm pretty sure I've got a tarp roughly this size if we need it.

Me 3, I just listed three and I thought I'd get a little jab in on the Hi-points. :hyper:

I almost bought a Hi-Point at a recent gun show. The guy wanted $1.50 for a 9mm and I thought it was too much money! j/k :hyper:

Me not knowing anything asks what three guns?

Three-Gun is tactical action shooting and requires the shooter to combine accuracy, speed, and tactics to complete different types of shooting problems or scenarios. Three-Gun match shooters solve these problems with different types of weapons. Those would be center fire rifles (such as the AR15, Mini-14(or 30), AK-47, etc.- semi-auto, bolt action or lever action), shotguns (10, 12, 16 or 20 ga.pump or semi), and center fire handguns (9mm or larger, revolver or semi-auto).

We will be running three different scenarios during this competition. One will be known as "72 Virgins, No Waiting". The second will be known as "The Rosie Affair" and the third is "Mall Menace". You will need at least two handgun magazines or speed loaders for each scenario. You will also need two magazines or speed strips for the rifle portion of each (you will shoot up to 24 rounds in each scenario) and six shotgun slug rounds per scenario.

Hope y'all can make it. Weather is supposed to be cool but sunny.

Edit: Clays will be thrown so besides your slug rounds bring some #8 shot for your shotguns.

well, Mom managed to get the 19th off, so I get to go!

Wish I had all three guns for the 3-gun, it sounds like it would be quite interesting. I actually think I don't have any of the guns required >>;

I imagine I will be there. Unless it is too cold and I wuss out

Rain or wet will only effect what loudenboomers I bring out.

I was at the AFC title game in '80 or '81, it will never get that cold here, so I am guessing I can deal with it.

And Scott I think your team took a whooping in that game :)
