So very happy you didn't show us another faceless addition to a gun collection, but unfortunately those aren't any better. You do have a great kid. THAT'S the worthy addition to your family!

St. Louis has the best zoo, but I guess we're talking Tenn.

Their snake house is killer and admission was free, last I went, and decent parking.

I remember going to the zoo in Washington D.C. when I was a kid.

It was pretty cool even back then. But, of course, they had dinosaurs in the cages when I went (it was a long, long time ago!!!)

I don't usually give Memphis credit for anything (besides crime rates), but Memphis does have a really nice zoo. Can't speak for the others as I've never been anywhere else.

I grew up in Knoxville and went to the zoo there many times. They decided to try Nashville today. They said they couldn't see most of the animals that a 3 year old wants to see. Elephants, lions, tigers, giraffe, and monkeys nowhere to be seen.

And like I said in the op, I think I have found something that even bacon can't help.

I agree!! It's not a very good zoo at all.

I'm guessing you were there in the middle of the day? Regardless of the zoo, the animals hide on a warm, sunny afternoon. The best times for actually seeing animals are early am, late pm, or on a cool, overcast day.

I have not been to either the Nashville or Memphis zoo so I can't compare but Ihave been to Knoxville and I personally think it's a very good zoo.

I have been to the St. Louis Zoo. They have Puffins and Emperor Penguins. Wife loves those. They have a great petting zoo for the kids. They are free. (except for parking, the children's zoo and many other aspects which end up costing quite a bit.)

I have been to the Washington D.C. zoo though it has been many years ago.

I am a member of the Memphis Zoo.

Of those three I have to say I like the Memphis Zoo the best as it has many great exhibits and if you go early on the weekend mornings you do not have to deal with the crowds that you do elsewhere.

Nah I am going to have to go with the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson Arizona. By far the best zoo I have been to across the country.

nashville zoo is set up to be closer to natural habitat, and less like a zoo. They have fewer animals, but they seem happier in the enclosures than at other zoos I've been to. For a small kid it can be disappointing to have to hunt for the animals and maybe not see them, but I always enjoyed it when we lived there

True, but a decent designed exhibit would still allow you to view the animals while still allowing them to feel comfortable. A zoos existence (at least an AZA accredited facility) isn't merely to house animals, but to preserve and protect them through exposure and engagement with the public. It's one thing for a child to read about an endangered animal in a book, but it's another to see it in real life. Can you tell I work around some tree huggers all day?

If nothing else, it is where you are at :P

Yes, well, I bring sexy back to K-Ville Zoo. :)

Are we seriously discussing zoos here? :P
