Anyone collect CocaCola stuff here?

Recommended Posts

I've got an old Coke cooler, and have been having a hard time finding information/ a value for it. I'd like to know when it was made, and possibly see if it could be fixed up. I did a Google search, but pretty much just found places selling restored Coke stuff. Anyone familiar with this stuff?

Post a pic. Repairing the cooler unit shouldn't be hard.

I'll work on a picture. It's not a vending machine style cooler, but the type you would fill with ice and take with you. It's in rough shape, the top is missing and the bottom is rusted out. I'd like to get it fixed up and throw it in the '56 Ford for truck shows.

Take it to Vegas. Those boys on Pawn Stars will take it off your hands.

Serious money from what I've seen on that show.

Mine ain't that nice, and by the time I went out there and back, I'd have spent more than I could sell it for.

Besides, I think it would look good in the back of my truck.

I want a coke now dang it. Thanks.

I'm addicted to Zero's. Bad. I admit it.

That cooler would look awesome on the back of your truck.

That's a very cool ice chest.

It makes me want a real one. Not that crap they have been selling as coke for the last 20 years.

If you can ever find the kosher coke in the stores it is the old recipe with sugar and tastes way better.

I think without the lid it will have no real value. You can fix rust and touch up paint but anything you do to it will actually decrease the collector value of it.

I do see what you mean about it being nice in the truck for shows. Nice accessory and all.

Look in the Mexican section of your grocery store. Krogers has them there real sugar.

My dad's a collector. He said it's worth $20-$30, maybe. With the rusted out bottom and no lid, it's just not worth anything. Sorry.

I'll be honest, this actually makes me feel a bit better about it.

I'd feel real apprehensive about taking a welder and fixing on it if it was uncommon or had some value. For a $20.00 cooler, I don't have to worry about damaging something that might have some value. I can sandblast and weld and paint and really not hurt what little value might be there.

I think it fits perfectly with my plans for the truck. Old flatbed dually, still working around the farm. I'll take some sheet metal and a welder and see what I can do with the cooler myself, then stick it on the back of the truck when I take the '48 Ford tractor to shows. :D

This thread reminded me of something I had stuffed away. Had to go and get it. A bottle of Coke from 1975 ( maybe 1974). Wifes Ex step dad who worked for Coke gave it to me 10 or 15 years ago. Real tempting. I wonder if it is still any good? By the way, how you decipher the date on bottom of bottle?

Yeah, I don't know what it's worth, but there are enough of those picnic coolers floating around in antique stores, etc... well, it's not rare enough to not restore it if that's what you want to do.

If that galvanized interior is in good shape, then it will do well in keeping iced drinks cold. I can say that because I've got one that we found in a relative's basement. Looks great and keeps 'em co-ooold.

Inner liner is okay. I've got to look at it more closely and see how badly the rust has weakened the sides, ut the plan is to pull the liner out, try to straighten a dent or two out of it, then put it back together with some form of insulation between the sides and liner. Weld some metal back in to form a bottom, make a lid, and possibly paint it.
