Site for a small Memphis area gathering?

Have you guys thought about Sportsmans Choice (old Brighton Arms) in Brighton? They only have six or eight lanes, but could easily handle a small group. By choosing this location we can also fire our rifles and shotguns. I live near Southwind and it only takes me fifty minutes to drive to Brighton so it should not be a bad drive for most Memphians. Just something to think about if RangeUSA can't come up with enough lanes for a meet.:)

Other than the upcoming one at RangeUSA, I'm sure Jack is looking for other places for future meets. Sounds like a good place to me.

Are they decently priced?

Rifles and shotguns = Good!

I've wanted to head up to SC for some time now - never shot there when it was Brighton Arms. Assuming a good date is picked, I'm way in...

I was there on tuesday and it's the same setup as the old Brighton Arms. The price is $10 per hour with one free target. Yes, Brighton Arms is the Gun Cabin once again. I am not certain if I will be able to make a meet in the near future, but whoever is planning might want to call them to get a group rate. I have never seen the place crowded so they may be motivated to work with our group. As for lunch before or after the meet there are several fast food joints, a bbq spot and a Olympic steak and pizza about five minutes from the range. Listen to me, one would think that I work for the Brighton tourism industry. If this becomes a regular gig maybe they should cut me a check.

Anything <3600 FPS (no steel core).

soooo what would this include lol like Remmington .223? Walmart Bulk?

That $15 a mag for frangable ammo sucks big time, but I still go there once in a while with the ar15 because they are good people. For me RangeUSA is the only place to shoot handguns. When I want to shoot alot I head up the road. It's a peaceful ride while listening to talk radio and sipping iced tea.

$15 mag of frangible ammo allows you to shoot in an indoor range, in Memphis. The back stop and surrounding structure of is not rated for the speed and penetration of the standard rounds.

Before, you would just buy a box of frangible .223 ammo and load your own magazines with the understanding that you don't shoot regular ammo. However, due to people not following the rules, they would shoot their own stuff and shoot into the ceiling, shoot all over the place damaging the surrounding structure, supports, etc. The people in the trailer park behind the range don't care for rounds coming into their homes!

While the situation isn't perfect, it is what it is, a place close, and indoors that you can shoot your .223. You can go have some fun, burn through some ammo. Brighton Arms building is a new range, with newer higher rated backstop, but it is in Brighton, or their is the MSSA which is not a bargain and of course all the open land, but it seems that there is a lack of available land from us. I write all this because it seems, that there is some resentment against RangeUSA for this, but there are reasons why. The ones I mention are the ones I have been told about, there might be other reasons as well, I don't work there.

You can't argue with someone's delicate backstop. Our search for a private place goes on.

It is their facitily, they can do what they want with it. I personally understand their reasons. It's all good. At least RUSA worked out a way to shoot ARs. They could have just banned them.

An affordable outdoor range would be very nice.

And they were the nicest I've seen in Memphis. Can't say that enough.

I don't think that anyone was ripping on RUSA. The people at RUSA are as good as they come. Some of the other ranges and dealers in the area could learn a great deal about customer service from RUSA. Their reasons for requiring frangible ammo is valid and that is their right. I simply made mention that the $15 magazine sort of hurts the pocket when I have a few thousand rounds of Remington .223 sitting around.

I feel like RUSA was very accommodating to us TGO guys that showed up their Saturday. Giving us a classroom to assemble in before we went out on the range, and even letting us move to the a larger classroom when it became available. The staff there did not have to do that for us. A very big :drunk: to them.

I also wished we had a good place to shoot outdoors. I love busting some clays, and would enjoy a place to zero in my deer rifle, and practice all around rifle shooting. I shoot clays at my uncle's place in North Shelby county with a couple friends, but I have maxed out the number of people that can come with me. I understand, it is his home and he doesn't want a lot of people out there that he doesn't know.

Here is a thought. How about a TGO Camp-Out. Just a weekend type thing at Natchez Trace State Park. They have an outdoor range, and the wife and I love camping.

I'll do that, but before it gets miserably hot. My condition won't take it.

That could be fun. I was thinking about going July 4 to take a break and lets the kids swim and fish, but that would be hot for shooting.
