Who here has had a carry permit the longest?

I keep seeing all these new people sweating and checking their mailboxes, waiting on their new carry permits, and wonder who here has had a permit the longest.

I got one of the first ones, issued back in July of '95, when TN first went to "shall-issue" permits. That was back when you had to have your gun listed on the permit, and also had to carry a $50,000 bond. It appears to be the 62nd one issued in this county, if it's number is any indication. It also has the Sheriff's signature on it, next to mine.

And I've kept it renewed ever since I got it.

So, who's got an old one? Anybody got one they've had since before "shall-issue" came along?

1997 for me. Carried only on occasion.

Since 2000, when I added a wife, I've been relentlessly armed. Priorities have a way of realigning you know?

my son and i got ours when he was 21. he is now 36. looks like 14-15 years. have to dig up paper work.

It's starting to look like permits didn't really become commonplace until things changed to pretty much what they are now, and the bond requirement was dropped... as well as the permit application going through the state, rather than the local Sheriff's office.

I figured as much, but wondered if I'm one of the few here who went through the previous ordeal.

I had tried to work on getting one of the older permits, but was having trouble finding a company to issue the bond.

Then found out how close the law was to getting changed and just waited...

We had a couple of the local insurance companies offer the bond here, so it wasn't a problem.

They dropped the bond the very second the law changed though, so it really wasn't worth the trouble. There were no refunds for whatever was left of your issuance time period. I think I had a year left on mine, when I got the cancellation letter. :-\

Going by the expiration date, mine was issued on 08-30-2008. I'm still a newbie! Had 'been meaning to' get one for several years before that but something else always came up. At least I finally got around to it.

I don't remember when I got my first permit. I do know that it was long enough ago that the local sheriff was still handing them out and they were yellow like the Sheriffs Dept. identification.

I've been "legal" since somewhere around the end of 1995. I don't remember exactly when. I originally tried to get a permit not long after I turned 21 (in the late 80s) but it was much more difficult then and I never did get one.

I got mine in the summer of '97. Apparently things have changed too. We had our classroom instruction that morning with a test, broke for lunch, then went to the range for about 4 hours of shooting. I was told to bring 150 rounds with me.

From what I understand, it's a two day course now and you don't have to have as many rounds.

nah, It's about 8 hours long. I think some places break it up into 2 nights but most don't.

I'm a newb, only had my permit since Feb of this year.
