Old Fart Wearing Sneakers Leads Masters

Recommended Posts

Ol' Freddie Couples, 50, has one stroke lead at -6 in first round of the Masters. Missed a 6 footer for birdie on 18 or would have had two stroke lead.

Always among the most laid back of golfers, he's now achieved total lackadaisicalness by not even wearing golf shoes. OR socks!

Tom ByGod Watson is one stroke back at -5, at the age of 60!

He damn near won the British last year, too.

Wow.

They look spiky.

He's thinking, "If Tiger can have 11 mistresses, I'll wear whatever the **** I want, dammit!"

Wool lined house shoes, pocket T's and scrub britches should be formal wear. Scrubs should have hi ridin' pocket for Stoeger, though.

Boom Boom is the freaking man, Woods can't carry his jock.
He probably has to use tongs to carry his own jock, considering where it's been.

and I am not just talking about golf. Wood's could learn quite a bit from Freddie.

I have never heard much good about Woods, never heard much bad about Couples.

Aside from his golf game Woods is a piece of crap, IMHO. And fwiw I felt that way long before his cheating escapades became public. Could care less about that really.

I do admit, I was yelling Noonan at the tv when Wood's missed his birdie putt on 18 :D

I would like to see the almighty Tiger miss the cut! I don't give a hoot how many gold digging sluts he has slept with. I never cared for him but couldn't put my finger on it.

I would love to see Freddie win it but he has a long way to go.

Yeah, shame that Tiger is such a cyborg. Will most likely be the undisputed best of all time before he's done, but still little of the warmth of so many other greats in the game and that was my opinion before his latest debacle.

I'm keeping good thoughts for Freddie and maybe even more so for Tom. You want to read about some character, check the Bruce Edwards saga, Watson's long time caddie and friend.

Love me some Eccos.

Eccos are wildly expensive but they are the best shoes I've ever worn. By a long shot. The only shoe that ever came as close to being as comfortable was a green striped steel toe job I used to wear in the factory.

I hope freddy or major tom can get this thing done, but they can't. Tiger is to good, phil is too good and so forth. freddy is my all time fave golfer, well, him or this guy I used to play with named Joe. He always brought beer.

It is time to face the facts about Tiger. Greatest golfer ever, completely robotic with the press, and not that likable. If he wasn't phenomenal you'd call him a huge jerk.

Discovering a handsome, billionaire, super famous athlete that travels all the time has had multiple affairs and acting surprised is like throwing a tennis ball at a wall and being surprised it when it bounces off the wall instead of going through it.

I just bought a pair of Ecco Cusco boots a few months back and they're amazing. Always loved their shoes but this is my first pair of their boots - big time winners, worth every penny.

Any one here care to admit that they are old enough to remember a golfer named Doug Sanders?

He was more known for his wild dress IE Bright yellow slacks and such than he was for his golf game although I do think he did win a couple big tournaments. I am not real sure about that part. I just know he was kinda well known at one point back in the 60's.

That is 1960's for ya younguns, not 1860's ;)

Just wondering, he was a family friend, grew up with my mom and I met him several times.

Of course...his biggest claim to fame was actually a failure; he like doubled or tripled the last hole of the 1970 British to lose it, including the famous missed 2 foot putt. Took 4 shots from 50 yards or so.

Was the biggest "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" in a major until Van De Velde's even more amazing self destruction.

Being phenomenal and the way he acts emphasizes his begin a jerk.

And not everyone who is super famous and travels a lot cheats on their wife. Being honest and having class is about doing the right thing when no one is watching. If you can't do the right thing then at least be discreet.

Woods will probably win the thing, then most everyone can being their idol worshipping again.

You mean there's people besides Tiger playing? I assumed that everyone else would've conceded the title to him by now...

I don't watch much golf anymore because it's like watching the Tiger Woods Tour. He is all that they want to talk about. He is a heck of a player and maybe the best ever but it's like a Kwik thread here on TGO. What else can be said that hasn't already been said dozens of times.

Man, you had to go and bring up the K word. Now all the newbies are gonna look for his related posts and start the storm again!

Well, there will have to be at least one more K thread, as his HCP hearing is early next month.

With the way the world is rolling, he'll get to keep it. But if we learn that it gets revoked, we need to call an emergency state-wide TGO celebration to be held at the exact time on a weekend! I'm thinking 11AM Central on a Saturday and 12PM Eastern for the better part of the state. We can even "fire all of our guns at once and ... explode into space!"

Afraid I'm still ambivalent on the whole issue.

Agree he's a huge detriment but also am quite leery of the precedent for a liberty revoked over legal behavior.

This is where I stand on the kwik issue as well.
