1911 4 in. or 5 in. barrel ?

If you take intended use out of the equation and I had to choose between a 5" and a 4" (4.25", whatever) - I'd go with the 5" (IMO). A lower priced 5" from RIA is a good entry point into the format.

I'm a pretty big guy, and I like the 5" standard size Government Model, but after about 30 years of shooting the full size models, I bought a Commander size gun (4.25" barrel). I can't believe I had never tried one before. To me, it shoots as easily and well as the full size guns and carries a bit easier.

I prefer Gov't model and carry one a lot. FWIW.
