So we talked about UFO's, which got me thinking about other subjects.

One of which is paranoramal activity and ghosts.

So do you believe in ghosts? Ghosts being people who have died but have not really left us.

Surely you guys have some stories. I have a couple of experiences.

I am a firm believer in it. Can't explain it, don't really understand it. It goes against other beliefs I have. And it causes me confusion.

So what do you think.

Never had an experience in my 41 years on this planet that would lead me to believe they are real.

It is hard for me to believe a "spirit" would transcend time and dimensions to be on earth after the body dies just to hang around and wiggle door knobs or make the room cold. If I was a ghost and I had the ability to move objects and other sorts of things, there would be no doubt that I was around. But as it is people just see shadows, or they see a painting move slightly. To me, it is more likely that fear and adrenaline make people see what they see, instead of it actually being a specter, spook or ghost. Just my opinion though.

So here is one story, happened about 30 years ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. It still can make the hair on my neck stand up.

I good friend of mine back home lived in a three story house, it had been the "family" house, his grandparents lived in it to begin with. His bedroom was on the third floor. So happens it had also been the bedroom his grandfather used and also had died in. As a matter of fact Bob's bed was the bed his grandfather passed away in.

Bob was a drummer, played in rock and roll cover bands. He had all kind of music stuff in the room, amps, P.A. speakers, instruments and what-not. His grandfather had also been a musician.

We were up in his room one afternoon, had been there many times. He was looking for a piece of sheet music he had been working with the day before. It was no where to be found. I do not recall the name of the song ( Atlantis maybe??). Anyway Bob was telling us that it was a song he and his grandfather had played together before grandpa died. He was near frantic looking for it as he had just had it the day before. We tore the room apart helping him look. Dunno why but someone noticed an edge of a piece of paper sticking out from under a big speaker. We tilted it back and sure enough it was the piece of sheet music.

As I recall the room started giving off a weird vibe. You could really feel something in there. Bob grabbed the sheet and said something to the effect of WTF! Burned into the sheet with what appeared to have been the end of a cigarette were the words "I Live". His grandpa died from smoking related cancer. BTW Bob did not smoke, would not allow smoking in his room.

Right about that time I saw in his mirror a small fog, as if someone had breathed on it. Well no one was next to the mirror much less breathing on it.

He had beads hanging in the doorway, no door, but just like these old hippy beads hanging down. All of the sudden the beads spread in the center as if someone had walked through them. Then the overhead light in the room flashed on and off. The only switch was in the room, no one was touching it, no one had walked through the beads.

By this time we were all rather freaked out ( not Bob he was still sitting in a chair near where the speaker was)) and decided to get the heck out of there.

I went down the stairs first, there was a doorway and a door at the entrance to the second floor. The door would not budge. Well the door had no latch on it, never did. It never had even fit flush into the door jamb before. (the house was very old)

Finally a big shove opened the door. There was no reason at all why the door would not open. We all went out, and down the next flight to the first floor and out the door onto a sidewalk.

Bob came out and said it was no big deal, that his grandpa must be up to his tricks again. It was not the first time things like this had happened apparently.

It took a while before I would ever go back up to Bob's room after that. I never had any other experiences there after that either.

Still freaks me out a little.

As a Christian and a believer that the Bible is true, I do not believe in spirits walking the earth.

+1

Voted no. I also have no explanation for your experience either, Mike.

I firmly believe in "ghosts" and spirits. I used the quotation marks because I'm not sure they are human anymore and the word ghost reflects that it is a human spirit.

I have had several encounters with unexplainable phenomena that, over the years, have made me believe even further. This phenomena includes a door being thrown open while being recorded by video on both sides of the door. This was at a store that I worked at in which many people had stories of things similar happening. I had the manager replay the video feed from both sides of the door. There was nothing and no one on either side. It was a flimsy metal swinging door and in the video, you could clearly see what part of the door the force was being applied to. Still freaks me out a little to this day.

At the same store, on a different day, I was joking with the new pharmacist about the ghost stories. I then walked down the toy aisle and a deck of cards flew off the peg hook and hit me square in the chest. They did not fall from the hook, but rather flew as if someone took hold of them and flung the deck from the hook.

Same store, during Christmas, we were selling motion activated, singing lamp posts. Everyone in the store was at the front counter counting down the registers, there was no one in the rest of the store. The AC unit was not running and there was nothing moving in the store. All of a sudden the lamp post started singing, as well as some other animated toys and decorations. When we all went to investigate we found that the strip plug that they were all plugged into was turned off. Again, there was no one else in the store and nothing had been moving, plus there was no power to these items. Yet they had all started going off at the same time.

At the first house I grew up in, I used to see shapes of people running through the house. They looked like after images. Like when you look at a bright light for too long and then look away, you see the shape of the light still. That is what they looked like. After a few years, we got a couple cats as pets. These cats would stare at something, I still don't know what to this day. They would follow it around the room and then hiss like they were being attacked or threatened by something. They would then run away with their tails all bushy, like what happens when they are threatened by another animal.

I have numerous other events that have happened to me, but that is all for now. The stories have not been made up, nor have the been embellished or exaggerated upon.

I believe.

smoking pot would not cause what I saw.

I voted yes, but I'm really still uncertain. The house I grew up on years ago was built where an old cemetary had been. The PO had took a tractor and pushed all the tombstones up into a smaller area in the back yard so that he could sell the land (he went to jail for this from what I've heard). We built our house there before we knew that the cemetary wasn't just confined to the back yard, and had weird things happen several times that may or may not have been ghosts. Personally my biggest experiences happened on a regular basis. The closet door in my bedroom made a distinct sound when someone closed it. I kept the door closed at all times, just like I still do in the house I live in now because it's just a habit for me to keep closet doors closed. Several times in the middle of the night I would wake up to the sound of my closet door being closed fairly hard. My bedroom door was always closed, so I knew no one had come in the room while I was sleeping. There were several other incidents such as lawn mowers that would die even if they were brand new if we mowed certain areas of the yard as well.

One other thing that didn't happen to me, but to my dad when we first got the house built and moved in. He doesn't want to believe in ghosts, so he's never even told me about this. My mother told me years later what had happened because it scared him bad enough to wake her up that night. He woke up to go outside and smoke, and came through the dining room to find a young girl standing at the door looking out. At first he thought it was my sister, and called her name. When he did this, the girl looked around and disappeared. A short time after that I went out to where all the tombstones were piled up and got to looking around. Sure enough, one of them was of a little girl that was fairly close to my sister's age when she passed away.

All kinda freaky, but like I said I personally still have no proof or definate reason to believe that ghosts really exist.

I think there are people who are stuck between our world and the afterlife. Like somthing wasnt exactly right and they didnt make it to wherever they were supposed to go. I have seen some things in my house that makes me wonder. Nothing like doors slamming or seeing people. But ever now and then I will look up and see what I can best describe as smoke floating through the house. And it just disappears. No one here smokes and we dont burn candles or anything like that. So I really dont know what it is?

You left this wide open for jokes. :poop: I've heard of weird experiences people have had. Especially around older towns. One I heard was a supposed witch who was dancing up and down backs of the pews of an old unairconditioned church that had its doors open. I remember listening to the Appalachian storytellers telling ghost stories. If you have a chance to take your kids to one of these storytellers, do it. Had one come to the school when I was a kid. "Haints" used to scare me. Now I'm no longer afraid of the dark. Just the ninjas that are in the darkness.

again with the off topic posting. Speaking in tongues would be demon posession, not seeing ghosts.

But isn't a demon a form of ghost, specter, spook or apparition? :foot:

when we first bought our home for the first couple of nights as we sat downstairs by the fireplace we would hear what sounded like footsteps in the hallways directly above us. I even went upstairs and walked back and forth with the wife telling me it was the exact sound we had heard.

Once we moved our crap into the house the noise went away.

But since then I have sometimes gotten the sensation that I am being watched through the windows. Once I swear I saw someone looking through the downstairs sliding doors. The house is in the woods fairly isolated. Several times I have ran outside looking for the peeper.

How we came to buy the house plays into this. The man who owned it previously had a teen daughter. They had caught a young man peeping on her one time. The peeper was told next time he got caught would be his last time. A short while later the peeper was back at it again. The guy we bought from went after the guy with a rifle, shot and killed him somewhere on the property.

He was not charged criminally for the shooting but later lost a civil suit. He had to sell the house to pay the dead guy's family what was awarded in that suit. We were the buyers.

A demon is not a ghost, demon would be the devil.

I thought a demon was supposed to be a servant of the devil, a fallen angel. If they can inhabit the body they would then be a spirit of some kind. This could also be classified as a form of ghost couldn't it?

Foozball is the devil. Do ghosts not have anything better to do? You'd think they'd be hanging out in Victoria Secret Show dressing rooms or something, not scaring the bejeezus out of people. I mean, if you are going to have a vice, make it something nice.

lets clarify a few things here

A ghost is the soul of a dead person, it appears usually as a vague, shadowy or evanescent form, as wandering among or haunting living persons. It is the trace left by a living person after they die.

A Demon is an evil spirit who was never alive.
