I was wondering where Memphis area people shoot. I just sent off to join the Desoto County club. I can't afford the MSSA. Is there anywhere else around here?

After you join please provide info on DCC. I have been thinking about joining for a while now.

What is the membership at MSSA?.... does the DCC have a 600 yard range that you can shoot on?

Pulled this price list off their site:

COST OF MEMBERSHIP

Initiation Fee-$400

Dues-$240/year

Spouse-$25

Children- Free

Background Check-$30

NRA-$25/year

Life Membership $3600.00

The yearly fee doesn't bother me as much as the initiation fee. Plus it's a hell of a ride for me to get there, on some roads I'd hate to be on at night. Facilities weren't bad though.

Or how about you pay the Life Membership fee and they close down unexpectedly shortly after!!!

I will readily admit that MSSA isn't the cheapest place to go shoot, but the way I look at it is that it keeps a lot of the jokers that I hear you guys often complain about out of the range. I have only seen one or two guys that shouldn't be out there (or anywhere with a gun for that matter). The facilities are very nice, with little to be desired. I'm sorry more of you don't see it that way.

Oh, I'm sure there's a good strategy behind the one time fee and I agree facilities are good. Just not sure I can stomach that one time fee and a drive I was not thrilled with, and I'll likely grow weary of. Looks like you're not too far away from it: Eads. I'm not hatin' at all. Good for you. Glad you like it (seriously).

The cost does not concern me. However, each time that I am ready to join I find something else to purchase. First it was motorcycles, then golf clubs, and now I go to sleep thing about how to fund another gun. I am hopeless. If I join I hope that I meet some good people there. I love to learn new things when it comes to shooting.

Well that is better than "Riverbend Gun Club in Dawsonville Ga.. initiation fee there is 600 bucks.. and yes.. it is to keep the riffraff out.. so to speak.. I have shot there.. last Nov over a two day period.. great place.. will be back again.. hopfully in the fall for the State Mid-Range Championships... Last year I set three National Records there.

I was out at the Desoto club once. It's a 200 yd, fairly primitive facility. But the price is right for me. I'm supposed to get a call for a range orientation. I'll post with pics after that.

That's not two miles from my FIL's.

Man, I didn't realize how expensive MSSA was. I was thinking about getting a membership there since it's right down the road from me. I think I'll wait to expand my gun collection a little bit more before I join up.

I'm glad I live in the sticks..............there is no way I could afford that and be able to shoot too

There sure are alot of us Eads, Oakland, east Shelby county folks needing a place to shoot. To bad insurance is so high and the politics so bad or we could find some land and open our own.

i visited MSSA a couple of months back with some members. It is nice. I think it is worth the money, but unfortunetly i dont have the money. lol. My Bday is in june, i may just go for it then.

It sounds nice, but at half a months pay just to get in the door? No way. They also seem to want all that up-front before you are approved to join. I wonder if you get anything back if they deny your app?

The only reason you would be denied is if your background check comes back with something bad on it.
