Rem 870 Express Mag Turkey loads?

Sorryfor any spelling mistakes, just been out patternig my gun so I'm doing this left-handed! (MAN those 3-1/2" shells hurt!)

Any of you use an 870 Express fo turkeys?

What haveyou foundas a good patterning load?

I'm shooting a 28" barrel with extra full choke. I tried the 3-1/2" Winchester Supremes with 2oz of no.5

It seems to pattern OK out to 30yds, but breaks up considerably at 40, with only 4 or 5 hits in the head/neck area.

I don't want to go dump a load more cash on shells I'll never use if I can get a litte up-front advice.

Oh, I believe I'd like to drop to a 3" shell too. My shoulder is frikkin' KILLING me after 6 shots!

Some of the 3" shells may pattern better. I've heard of several people getting good results with 3 1/2" shells though. A friend of mine shoots a 870 Express and has never shot a 3 1/2" shell in it and has killed probably 20 turkeys with it. He uses Federal 3" 2 oz. loads with 5 shot. Other shells would probably work good too.

The federal turkey loads with the flight control wad shoot tighter,it will say on the box " Flight control wad" 4 dollar a shell heavy shot is the only thing i have found to pattern better.

I have found that 3" shells pattern better in my buddy's 870. I patterned his with Winchester extended range Supreme's that are about 2-3x the cost of the regular supremes. I would shoot his to 45 yards with that load.

I use 3 inch winchester #5's they have a great pattern at 25 yards and I was putting around 15 pellets in the kill zone at 50 yards. I am using the stock extra full choke for turkeys.

Hevi-13 3 1/2" #5 is what I use with my 870 Express. Lots of people get great results with these.

My grandfather showed me this trick many years and he was an avid turkey hunter and it works. Take some light weight oil like sewing oil and a hypodermic needle or a meat injection needle (smaller needle works better) and inject just alittle and I do mean a little into the end of the shell this will hold the shot pattern tighter. I know some of you that read this are going to think Im crazy but it reaaly does work. I hope this helps. And hell yea those 3-1/2 shells hurt.
