Who's good at math?

Three men checked into a hotel room and were charged $30 for which they paid $10 each. The next day, the manager realized that the men had been overcharged since the real price is $25 for the room. The manager gave the bellhop $5 to return to the three men. On the way to their room the bellhop decided to keep $2 for himself so he wouldn't have to make change. The bellhop gave $1 to each man. The three men had now paid $9 each, or a total of $27. This, plus the $2 the bellhop kept for himself, makes a total of $29. What happened to the other dollar?

$25 for the room + $2 for the bellhop=$27 $30 initial charge - $3 refund = $27 Each paid $9 and $9 x 3 = $27

The last dollar should have been split 3 ways. If the room was 25 then they should have each paid 8.33 rounded...this is killing me

Right, I got the same answer you did at first but I wasn't sure if we were missing something.. thanks

The room was 30. Then the 5 refund, making the room 25. The bellhop kept 2 which makes the room 27. The men got 3 back so it is all square.

Ain't square! "They was robbed!" Imagine the discussion when they say "Bye" and thank the mgr for $3 dollars back.

Mgr: "$3!?"

3 men: "Yeah, $3. Thanks."

Mgr: "Oh, Hector. Can I see you in my office please?"

Even though the problem is solved/accounted for, there's some kind of Obama deal going on.

If the correct price of the room was $25. and the bellhop gave em back $3. thats a total of $28.not $27. if the hop kept $2. so, all money accounted for, by my meager math.
