A couple weeks ago I posted about going to interview with the TN Dept of Corrections. Well at the Charles Bass Complex they only had 8 positions open. Long story short, I interviewed but was not accepted. I wanted some input from you all, I plan to keep applying with the Dept., my question is, do you think if I keep trying that eventually they will give me a shot or do you think I am just wasting my time?

As I think I stated in your other thread, I've yet to meet a DOC employee who's happy with their job. And I've met quite a few. With that being said, if it were me, I wouldn't be trying too damn hard for such a position. You'll probably end up regretting your decision, in the long run.

FWIW, I have heard that there is a very high turnover rate with the Dept. of Corrections and any prison or jail for that matter.

You probably weren't qualified because you were not an ex-con, didn't have an assault record, weren't being investigated for some crime, etc.

If it is what you want, then keep trying! Good luck.

If you are out of work put in applications everywhere, if you have your hart set on that job, flip burgers until you get your shot.Dont give up but, dont sit around and wait for it to happen.

Good luck!

Not out of work, looking for something different and other reasons (won't go into detail)

Thats good to hear.

I hear so many people that are out of work and cant find a job in the field they are used too so,they just lay around on unemployement.

If my work goes dry I would wash cars or mow lawns until a good gig came along. I hope you get the job you are wanting, you are a good man for doing what you have to do until the job you want comes open.

Good luck!!

Since your looking for a DOC job, have you given any thought to putting an application at Correction Corporations of America (CCA)?

They are located in Antioch, just off Harding Place, north of Antioch Pk.

Maybe they will give you a go...might give it a shot, Benchpress...nothing ventured, nothing gained. :death:

I do a lot of work in CCA prisons- the turnover is high, but that means positions are constantly available. Last class I heard of at Hardiman County (Whiteville, one of two prisons there) the class had 50 in it!

DEFINITELY check them out!

I used to be a correctional officer, there can definitely be some stress to the job, and the pay in Tennessee isn't top tier, but it can be a rewarding job in ways as well. Right now they are probably flooded with applicants and they are weighing a lot of factors in their decision.

If its a field that really interests you, don't give up on it. Its just a little of your time here and there to apply and possibly interview again. CCA might be a good option to get some experience and training, but in the long run, I'd recommend getting on with a state or federally run facility.

I worked at Riverbend for a couple of years I enjoyed it but the pay sucked. Have you taken the TDOC exam because the higher your score the easier it is to get a job. I scored a 90 something and got a call just a week later. Started working 3 weeks after I took the test. This has been over 7 years ago so things might have changed.
