Ithaca M 1911 A1

My granddad's service pistol. My dad acquired this after my grandad passed and he's loaned it to me for cleaning. It's got some pitting on the slide and a bad rust spot on the safety lever. Still, I can't put into words the sentimental value it holds.

;)Ithaca was one of the few subcontractors that produced superb 1911's during WW2 (did I say "few"? I meant "only").

But they did have a problem with their early frames, they were prone to cracking. With no serial# exposed in your pictures, it is unknown whether or not this one might be in the range. If it has a weak frame, it will fall in ser# 900,000 to 914,000 range. Beyond that you have a great collectible shooter... If it falls within that ser# range, I wouldn't shoot it, as the chances of it breaking near the take-down bar are too great.

I'm talking trash about the Remington's. This is a relatively rare and beautiful gun. the provenience makes it quite collectible.

Enjoy;)

This belongs in the C&R section.

I was hoping to look to the right of the thread title and see it was in "Firearms Classified". Nice gun. Love it. Protect it. Tell your dad it needs to be cleaned weekly so you need to hold it for him.
