I went this morning heard some gobbling a good ways away but the wind picked up and the rain was just coming down hard. It started thundering and lightning. I can handle the rain and thunder but don't like to be out when it is lightning so I left.

Well I heard a few birds way off and heard 2 shots about 6:30-7:00 am. Set up on a bird and called off and on for about an hour. It started raining hard at about 7:30. I got up and started walking out and went about 50 yards and might have run off the bird I was working. It figures............

No Toms for me today, but I got two hens to come down and within about 30 yards of me. I will be back in the morning for sure.

I was, however, greeted by this scene when the sun came up. Made the 2 mile hike in and out worth it:

I didn't get to hunt this morning, but I was out there this afternoon. I enjoyed being out in the woods. I saw a lot of wildlife (ducks, geese, a beaver, deer, squirrels, and a turtle) but no turkey. I didn't even hear one. I'll try again Monday morning.

The thing that stinks is I didn't have a chance to do any scouting this year, and I hate just picking a random spot that "looks good". I am hunting public land, so I didn't want to go scouting around on opening day. Maybe if I can get out there early enough on Monday, I can locate a bird.
