HCP Legality

I wanted to ask about carrying without an HCP.

No, not Handgun Carry Permit, but Hammer Carry Permit.:P

I was watching a documentary on the Hells Angels which said their weapon of choice is a ball-peen hammer since, in California, there is no law against carrying of such.

Not that I would actually carry one, but is this true for TN too or is there some catch about "intent to go armed" with such objects?

Maybe I should take up leather working and make hammer holsters.

I don't see how it is illegal in Tennessee to carry a hammer because it is not classified as a prohibited weapon, such as switchblades, or as a club. I would sure hate to get hit with a hammer and am sure a lot of crooks wouldn't want to get popped with one either.

Yep saw the same one too...

But I wouldn't be surprised depending on the situation (the area, your dress and demeanor, recent events etc......) that an officer could deam it a "club" and confiscate it if he wanted to. Legal or not.

I think it would be similar to a baseball bat if you possess it. I have always figured if you carry a bat or hammer for that matter and have a legitimate use for it you are okay if you ended up using it for defense.

So if you are going to carry a bat you ought to have a baseball or two and a glove with you and if you are carrying a hammer you better have nails and be able to express why you needed to carry it.

I agree....but when you say you, "Were going to nail some thing." while your in a bar, nails and a 2x4 aren't the first things that come to my mind. :D

But its a ball-peen hammer. Its for getting the dents out of my car, Mr. Officer. My OCD just wont let me leave them.

(Or to bang on my bike if it won't start in the Angel's case)
