Practicing the DA pull

I'm taking my new cz p-01 to the range tomorrow. Dry firing, the DA is gritty and extremely long.

How should I practice the DA pull?

one smooth, non-stop motion?

or I could take the slack out then finish the pull in kind of a two-step process.

I'm thinking of trying to master the one-smooth-pull but I could tell just dry firing that its going to take some serious practice not to jerk the weapon.

Best option in my mind is take up the take up, then fire the weapon. The grit should smooth out a lot after firing several hundred rounds.

I usually leave my hammer in the 1/4 cock (or whatever you call it). That leaves quite a bit of takeup. What little I''ve done with double action, I treat it like a 2 stage trigger. Start the squeeze after the takeup is gone.

Mine is gritty too, but it's a pretty new gun. BTW... I love the P01

when i shoot my P345 DA i normally do it in 2 steps

2 steps here too. If I try to just snap the trigger back real quick, the muzzle just goes all over the place.

My 2 cents publicly:

I don't do a 2 stage pull. The key is to not jerk your finger back. Instead you want a smooth but quick trigger pull. The point of the DA/SA is that if you need your weapon, your first shot will be DA. If you cheat and do a 2 stage pull, then you might do that in a real situation. Seconds or half seconds may matter. I'm not saying I'm perfect with the DA, but I'm accurate enough to hit a man sized target in the chest out to 25m reliably. The DA/SA double tap is fun to work on too.

Of course, if you're looking to hit the X ring each and every time, why not just practice in SA mode until you master that? Then step it up. Or some may argue why bother at all, just get a LEM or DAK or Glock type trigger and be done with it.

Aim as you are squeezing. You'll soon be able to feel the point just before the sear breaks. With practice, you'll be on target at that point. At least that's how I do it with a DA revolver.
