Glock 22 - Good choice for carry?

When taking the carry class, the shop loaned me a Glock 22 for the shooting portion of the class (I did not want to qual with my Walther P22). I fell in love and bought one and am currently waiting its arrival.

Something I did not consider was whether it was a good choice for daily carry. I have seen references to the Glock 26 as a good daily carry (as it was made for concealed carry).

Long story short, is a Glock 22 a good choice for daily carry? I love the gun and would definitely prefer a .40 over 9MM.

Thoughts, opinions, "what did you do?" are all welcome. Thanks.

The police think so. Personally I would go for the 23. It has all the benefits of the full size 22 while being compact enough to be very easily concealed.

Thanks. I'll check out the Glock 23. I knew LEOs carried them but typically not concealed.

I have a Glock 23 for my every day carry gun. I love it and it's easily concealed. A good choice.

I switch from a Glock 22, Glovck 27 and my Wather PPS. Have carried every day for over a year with my G22

i carry a g21 every day and have no problems at all with concealing it or everyone is use to it one? i prefer full size guns either a glock full size or a 4 or 5 inch 1911. compacts and subcompacts are just not for me. although the subs will accept compact and full size mags.

It's a great choice if you can't find an XD.

Seriously, it's a great choice. I carry an XDm in .40, in waist band, similar size to the 22, with no problem. It does take a little getting used to, but soon you won't even know it's there.

+1. I agree. Solid pick. Defacto standard pistol of US law enforcement agencies. They have the benefit of carrying them like a sidearm, though...

As a CCW--if you like how it shoots, then you can find a carry method that works for you and you think is comfortable to wear. I've carried a model 23 since 1995 and I recently got a 22Gen4. Since it fits in the same holster(s), I carried it some and felt it was a little harder to conceal in the Galco Combat Master OWB I have. Seems that the difference between the 22 and the 23 is more pronounced on your hip than laying on the table...so given the length of the slide and handle, an IWB option might be your best bet. Hardly noticed a difference when I put it in the IWB Don Hume for my 23--even with just a t-shirt to cover it up. It prints a little bit, but I don't worry too much about a little printing as long as it's covered by a layer of clothing.

If you still have a choice in the matter, wouldn't hurt you to try out a 23. They shoot very well once you get used to handling it.

Thousands of Cops can't be wrong. It all depends on your build and your style of dress whether you can easily carry a full size. They will probably shoot better than a smaller gun so if you can conceal it, I'd say go for it.

I prefer a full size 1911, but it isn't always easy to carry. My next choice is an Kimber Ultra CDP II. When necessary I like the G27 or XD40sc.

Fine choice for carry IMO. Lots of guys who have never tried carrying one will tell you it's too big and that you MUST get a 23 or 27... It's just not true though. A smaller one may be easier yeah, but only by just a little... A 22 is only 1/2" bigger than a 23, a 1/2" ain't a whole lot.

Remember, a fully loaded 22 is about the same weight or lighter than an EMPTY commander sized 1911... weight and thickness matter more when it comes to carrying.

Thanks for the feedback. Already purchased the G22 but looks like I need to check out the 23 as well. A friend of mine has an XD .40 that I will be shooting this weekend. I could definitely go for another gun purchase. Can't have too many right?

And I've already order my Don Hume IWB holster. Good to hear there is little printing. Can't wait to get my carry permit. Thanks again.

As far as build goes, I'm 5'11" with athletic build. I wear suits half the time which won't be an issue. I was thinking more with warm weather coming and wearing shirts/t-shirt. Seems like I'll be good to go.

Good thing about sticking within the system is that the 22 mags fit in the 23. Modularity...it's a beautiful (and practical) thing.

Oh, and check out GL01 Trijicon night sights for that 22. Good thing to have on a carry weapon, and Trijicons are solid with a good warranty.

Having a 22 and a 27 I use the 22 for around the property and carry the 27 to town unless I need something smaller. Which would be LCP.

However, it is mostly just a night-stand gun now. When I carry polymer, I go G26.

I'll also add to the OP that I notice you are 36 and imagine you wear less concealing clothing in the summer as most of us do, so it may be challenging concealing a full size Glock in shorts and a T shirt like I dress in the summer. If you really like the Glock in 40SW, you may want to use that as an excuse to go get that Glock 27 for a summer gun. They conceal great and are just as reliable as the the Glock 22.

I carry a Glock 17 every time I leave the house. It is in a leather outside the waistband holster. I don't worry too much about concealing it because most people are oblivious and would never notice a bulge under a t shirt unless it is a really tight fitting t shirt. If I am wearing a jacket I never pull a shirt over the pistol even if I have the jacket open. People see the pistol, ask and I explain to them I have a permit. After that all is good.

We are not required to carry concealed so that is not my primary concern, ease of carry and comfort is because if it becomes to much of a pain to carry I will stop.
