Picked up 2 boxes yesterday. Seems to cycle fine with manual manipulation of the slide. Going to to range with it in a couple of days and we will see how it runs in the Nighthawk.

BTW it was $25 a box. A buddy told me he saw it at the gun show for $30.

Cabela's expecting a new shipment of .45 acp on 4/10/10

I am curious as to why all of you are jumping on board with this new round before very much independent testing has been done. I personally could care less what a manufacturer has to say about their new cash cow. I want to see the tests done by non-biased third parties before I invest. Last I saw, this stuff doesn't come in a +P variant. That concerns me a bit due to most modern defensive arms being beefed up to handle the stuff. Not using +P rounds in a gun is just asking for reliability issues in my opinion. To each his own I suppose, but I sure hope that this stuff doesn't fail anyone that drank the Kool Aid.

tests have been done with the first calibers, .380 thru denim and 14 inches of ballistic gelatin perfect expansion every time and these rounds wont plug due to the design. As far as +p goes they do have +p offerings, the standard velocities of these rounds are high (1000 fps in .380 ) .

If the latest rounds perform like the 1st these will be top shelf defensive rounds, especially with their penetration capability.

Not to sound like an ass, but I wasn't referring to the other offerings of the round. Just because one caliber of a bullet design does well in ballistics performance doesn't mean that another will do the same. I'm not saying that the .45 isn't a good round. I'm saying I don't know and there haven't been enough tests for me to carry them. Even if I did decide to carry them, I would need to put at least 1000 failure free rounds of them through my every day care sidearm in order for me to have confidence in their ability to properly function through my weapon. You all could probably agree that that wouldn't be cheap, which is why I don't take such decisions lightly. I also haven't been able to find a .45 +P variant so if someone could provide a link to prove me wrong, then I will take that part back. Like I said, I'm not trying to sound like a snob, but I take every aspect of my defensive layout very seriously and while money is not growing on any trees that I currently own, I have to be seriously wowed by something in order to change over. Critical Defense in .45 hasn't proven itself yet. It probably will do as well as the other rounds, but it hasn't been tested enough yet to know for sure. That's all I'm saying.

Sportsman's Warehouse in Chattanooga got some in this week. I picked up 1 box today for $21.99. Looks like it should cycle in my Kimber Ultra CDP II due to rounded nose of bullet.

I'll try to shoot a few this (not many though:rolleyes:) to see if it cycles well.

Fired 5 rounds of Critical Defense in my Ultra CDP.

Function was pertfect, recoil much lighter than 230 gr.

Now I have enough left to load 2 mags + 1 in the chamber.

Are you seriously going to carry a round that you have only fired 5 times through your weapon? that is hardly proof that it will function 100%, but then again it is your life and not mine....

I have never in my life heard that claim before, in fact it is usually the contrary. +P Ammunition produces unneeded stress on pistol frames, please explain to me why you think non +P ammo is a reliability risk, this should be quite entertaining
