Thanks Elliott, I recieved the parts on Friday and installed them Friday night.

Test shooting the gun yesterday yeilded very favorable results. I had no failures to go to battery in the 150 rounds I shot. I have never gone that many without an FTB before.

A new problem surfaced. On several occassions on the last 50 rounds the gun cycled fine, went to battery, but only half cocked the hammer. I am attributing that to a dirty gun and my slightly underpowered home rolled rounds.

The spring I installed was a Wolff 18.5 lb spring. I am thinking maybe that 18.5 lbs attributed in a part to the gun not fully cocking the hammer. Maybe it is a little too stiff to allow the slide to go all the way to the rear. My attempt to adjust this was to trim a very small bit off the end of the recoil spring. I took about 5/16 of an inch or a little less of wire off the end of the spring. I am assuming this will lesson the tension a tad. Next time I shoot I will watch to see what results were gained from this. The new spring coil is at least two inches longer than the original spring coil was. The 5/16 I removed was about 1/3 to 1/2 half of a coil.

Wait a sec... was a round chambered when the hammer was a half-cock?

If so, that means your sear bounced and dropped the hammer to the safety intercept. my wife's 1911 was doing that occasionally before I even replaced the recoil spring, and that is why I replaced the sear spring as well (it was weak). This is more likely to occur under high slide velocity (due to heavier spring).

It is impossible for a round to chamber without cocking the hammer, if the sear is working properly.

Yep, that's what it was doing Eddie. Looks like you're gonna order more springs Mike. :woohoo: Oh and can you post that link again for me?

Thanks for the info Eddie. I guess it means I will be ordering some more springs, LOL

Oddly enough it did not do it until after the gun was gunked up. I also wondered how it was chambering the round and not leaving the hammer in firing position. I guess you explained it pretty well.

Dave, here is the link I have to the Wolff Springs.

Thanks Mike, I ordered a new spring today. I noticed at the top of the page it mentioned that it comes with a firing pin spring, too.

nope, I'm not sure what a sear spring is, either. :bowrofl:

It's the bowed, 3-fingered flat spring which resides under the mainspring housing and grip safety, which interacts with the sear, trigger-bar, and grip safety to provide their tension.

Eddie, I looked at the gunsprings site and was having no luck finding the sear spring.

Do you still have a link for the one you ordered for your RIA?

Thanks Eddie, I saved.

Have you had a chance to fire the RIA since your parts replacement?

Nope... It's my wife's gun, and she hasn't had a chance to bring it to the range. The trigger feels great though, and the grip-safety feels like it has a bit more tension. My wife thinks that she won't like it, for some reason. But, I told her to shoot it first.

It'll probably be next year before I do get to fire it, since we are heading to NY for Christmas in a couple days, and won't be back for a week.
