Folks, it's been awhile since I've seen a get-together near enough for me to attend without driving longer than I'd get to shoot... so, I'm proposing a casual lunch and trip to the indoor range at On-Target in Murfreesboro for one weekend in April...

Need to decide where to eat, as well. So here's a poll. Your comments are welcome!

Did you mean to make the choices all on Friday?

I'd prefer Owl Hollow or Viola on a Saturday or Sunday.

I'm with you. Owl Hollow is perfect. Maybe we could even grill out instead of going to a restaurant. We'd have to ask Charlie of course, but the last time I was out there I saw a grill we might be able to use.

+1 for location and the Sat or Sun

I voted for all of the dining establishments as they all are agreeable to me. I could meet up on a Saturday or Sunday but probably not Friday.

Also, On Target is more expensive. Non members pay $15 for the lane and $10 per additional shooter and only 3 to share a lane. Owl Hollow would be a better location. $5 each or $40 for the year.

Knob Creek is the weekend of April 9th. I dont know how many people go to it but just wanted to let you know. I'll but up there that weekend but Sundays work better for me. And +1 more for Owl Hollow.

Whoops!

Fixed that... the calendar I was looking at ends on Friday. Doh!

And, as far as Owl Hollow, etc goes, that's pretty far for me to go, personally... though I've done it a few times. I was trying to make it more accessible for some of us to the south, by putting it nearer the middle of the state and patronizing one of our vendors at the same time... Perhaps it would be worthwhile to ask about a group rate, if lower cost at On-Target would sweeten the pot...

There are a number of folks here who shoot at Terry Walden's in Manchester... that's a good outdoor range.

The range in Viola is really good too. Lots of acreage and no range officers! $6 for all day.

How far is Viola from the Boro? How far from Manchester? What about that in lieu of Owl Hollow? Does that work for MolonlabeTN? Are there good eats close by?

It should be safe. When I go during the week, I'm the only one there. Don't know about weekends. Nobody calls hot or cold at the other parallel ranges. They just go downrange.

I've been to both Walden's and Viola.

Walden's has five or six nice covered rifle stations on their 300 yard range.

The pistol range has eight target holders with four or five movable tables to but your stuff on. It's also marked for common distances. The main issue there (IMO) is parking for a large group. There isn't much. Manchester's not too far away with a decent selection of restaurants.

Viola's wide open a spread across two or three hundred yards for mostly private rifle stands. I've been told the many of the rifle stands were built by individuals for their own use. There is a covered area at the far end with several stands that are for public use. There's also plenty of open field parking. Dining options for Viola are heading into McMinnville or Manchester.

I didn't vote in the poll yet, but would definitely try to attend no matter where the decision is made to shoot and eat. As long as I get to shoot and eat, or eat and shoot I am good to go ;)

I'm not going to vote because I'm free every weekend, and being in Smyrna, I can get to pretty much any range without too much trouble. FWIW, I like the grill out idea at Owl Hollow. I'll bring the chips.

I like the Viola idea, it is a good range... it's possible that the owner would let us grill out, out there. I will find out, if any are interested.

Viola is an hour from the 'boro, and about 30min from Manchester, conservatively... so it'd be a long drive for many, which is the drawback... along with the lack of places to eat in Viola.

Parking is an issue at Walden's... and on a Saturday we'd be competing for space with the regulars, as well. So I'd definetly want to let him know we were coming.

I'll post again what I find out from Viola... it'd be worth a try at least, I've been wanting to go there again for a while.

Whatever happened with this

Maybe everyone got busy with it being around tax time and all?

I am still up for it if/when it does work out.
