Maybe it's just me, but case hardening is for single-action revolvers and lever guns. It looks good--no, a more fitting word would be BEAUTIFUL--it's just an unusual finish to see on a 1911. Turnbull does excellent work, though.

This is what is referred to as a barbecue gun.

I'd imagine the buyer of this would wear it on special occasions. But they probably would wear it once in a while. I own only one 1911 I don't carry ever. It's a Colt 1911 manufactured in 1917. It has been in my family since its manufacture. I have shot it on a number of occasions though.

It's called color case hardening. Yes you see it often on old shotguns as well as old single action revolvers.

Beautiful, but I'm not into collecting handguns - not that there's anything wrong with it. Investment-wise, I'd have to see a strong history of late model Kimber Limited Editions appreciating to consider investing in a new Kimber. Otherwise I'd find some other investment vehicle. If I wanted something else to shoot, I'd just buy a Wilson, Baer or Brown 1911 ... and a ton of ammo.

Redneck holding Oxy/Acet torch… Give me your Kimber and hold my beer.

Preppy, OCing a Kimber…. Okay?

Redneck holding Oxy/Acet torch… There. I turned your $1000 Kimber into a $4000 Kimber. Now go get me another beer.
