Just keep in mind that there are a fair number of "non-friendly" LEOs around (especially Memphis).

AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH! I meant to yell that. I have met some with no interpersonal skills at all. The "you can beat the charge, but not the ride type". I am as clean and respectful as they come. I know officers have a tough job. I will try to be more observant when going for take out in the future.

I can speak for the majority of LEOs in Shelby County when I say: Leave me the hell alone when I'm trying to eat. I don't much care if there are a couple of grenades hanging off of your bandolier- provided no one complains. Meals are tough enough to come by in the suburbs and almost nonexistent for MPD.

I've thought about this and wondered if anyone else has ever thought of just taking their slide and magazine with them instead of leaving a whole gun in the car?

I mean, that way, no one else could use your gun and you're not carrying a gun, just gun parts (and ammo). I've never seen a no ammo or no gun parts sign.

The only problem with that is that my 1911 requires an allen wrench to take down and I don't feel like going through all that trouble. But yes, I have the tools in my truck to tear it down. Just too much hassle. If I was carrying an XD, its not a bad idea. It would be awesome to have a holster that you could clip on that would hold the pieces.

There's a casual quick seafood/taco type place across from Kirby Woods Baptist Church on Poplar in East Memphis. It sells wine and beer.

These goofy laws are all the more reason why I conceal a snub in a pocket holster in public.

I was walking into Pawbowski's in Murfreesboro yesterday when I saw the beer sign.. Had to go back and lock it up. (I keep a steel box under the back seat that's attached by cable to the seat frame - I have to lock things up at work too.)

Sure hope they get this law fixed soon so we don't have to fuss with it all the time.

I LOVE Pawbowskis! And so do my kids. And the way the new owner has changed things is excellent. we live just down 231 from there and it is one of the main reasons that I want the restaurant carry bill to pass. I carried in there a bunch last year before I ever realized they sold beer. I don't drink so I am not even conditioned to notice the neon beer sign on the front window. Walking in I am usually trying to just keep my eyes on my kids so they don't get hit by cars in the parking lot.

My HCP instructor was a LEO training officer. He was asked about this situation. This may be how he would handle it but he said as long as it is not an actual BAR. If its a Chilis or such and you are not consuming he did not see any offense. In these places the primary service is food not drink. (Don't sit in the bar area)

He was a cool guy and maybe he would not give any crap in that situation.

Seems like a gray area. So I just avoid it all together.

Not very gray according to the law. By law you can not carry into an establishment that serves/sells alcohol for on-site consumption. That includes these type places. However, there are many LEO's, one being your instructor, that would use their discretion in a case like this. The on-site consumption is the key. You can still go to the liquor store, or C-store and buy beer carrying, because you don't buy it for on-site consumption.

I read this post last night and this morning, after getting out of cardiac re-hab, my wife and I went to "Noshville" on Broadway in Nashville for breakfast. In the middle of my meal I glanced over and saw, for the first time, the bar area. I never even thought that they served any alcohol.

Having legally carried in FL for 10 yrs before coming here I've long wished that TN had the same regs as FL, namely as long as the principal business is food, CCW was OK.

BTW, I finished my meal, without incident.

My wife gets annoyed when I carry and we decide to go out to get something to eat. When we start going over our options, I have to name places that DON'T serve alcohol....and she starts naming off places that DO. I refuse to leave my gun in the car, so we either go somewhere else, go home, or drop my gun off and take chances.
