Puckered up on G'Town PKWY

So the wife and I just moved and instead of trying to fight the boxes in the kitchen we decide to grab something quick and dropped by Moe's Southwest Grill (fast casual Mexican food) for a couple of burrito's. I was carrying (as usual) and we had a couple of MPD officers in line behind us. I wasn't deeply concealed or anything and If you looked you could spot my gun. When we get up to the register area I look down and see a ice chest in the counter stocked with a selection of 4 or 5 beers. There was no signage or anything to let me know that they served. I puckered up so tight I could have pinched a railroad spike in half. We paid for our meal and took it to go and left without any static from the MPD officers. My wife said she had forgotten they served. It was a hell of a reminder of the real reason for the restaurant bill. To think I could have been arrested and lost my permit cause I didn't know that a fast food joint had beer?

This is one of my biggest issues with the way it is, was, is again. There are many places like that in the metro areas that you can walk in and innocently make that mistake, there is no bar, there are no neon Budweiser signs, etc.

I think if anything was said, your only, and probably winable, defense is the "Oh shiit, :D I didn't know they served here!" defense. And then, hope for the best. I would bet money, that nothing would have happened if they saw it. If they did, checking your permit would have been the most that would have been done.

Oh, and Moe's has some good food!

I've found myself in a similar situation, realizing I was carrying somewhere it was illegal. I am certain others of us have also. The way some of the stupid:screwy: damn:poop: laws are written it is so easy to be going about your daily business and find yourself in this situation. Maybe the cops showed a bit of discretionary intelligence.:D A reason for deep concealment.

Went in for lunch today. Had to leave it in the truck. I get so nervous leaving it in my truck. I parked where I could see my truck and pretty much never took my eyes off her. As soon as they handed me my bag, I was out the door.

Hang on just one dadgum minute here..................you're telling us that you took a GUN :death: into an establishment that served BEER :drama: and you weren't drinking, and that the GUN :death: didn't even "go off" ? Nobody was shot ? :D The mere smell of the ice cold alcoholic beverage failed to send you into a violent, psychotic outburst ? :stare:

In spite of this terrifying combination of factors, no bloodshed, mayhem, or chaos erupted ?

You, my friend, clearly are not watching/reading enough mainstream media. This account is obviously fictional.

I did the same thing at Golden Eagle in Murfreesboro. I had no idea that they served beer. Since it's a Mongolian BBQ there's no reason to look at the menu. I was in there one day and noticed one of the patrons had a bottle of beer on the table. Perhaps the State whould have thought of that before making stupid laws.

Full of win.

I just hate that the screwed up laws put me in that position in the first place.

I can speak for the majority of LEOs in Shelby County when I say: Leave me the hell alone when I'm trying to eat. I don't much care if there are a couple of grenades hanging off of your bandolier- provided no one complains. Meals are tough enough to come by in the suburbs and almost nonexistent for MPD.

Now, fast-forward to 20 minutes after lunch and Susie Q. Public sees you packing that death machine mentioned in BigPoppa's post. When the police are called, it's anybody's guess what's gonna happen. It'll come down to the officer(s) handling the call. With me, we'd go outside to talk about it so Susie doesn't call my boss to complain about me not locking you up, provided you're legit and friendly.

I make that mistake all the time when I go for carry out. I don't feel bad about it. My gun has never gone off in those couple of minutes.

I don't feel bad about it, I just worry about an officer sticking to the letter of the law and causing me a lot of trouble in the process.

I've thought about this and wondered if anyone else has ever thought of just taking their slide and magazine with them instead of leaving a whole gun in the car?

I mean, that way, no one else could use your gun and you're not carrying a gun, just gun parts (and ammo). I've never seen a no ammo or no gun parts sign.

+1 on the deep concealment. You never know when a sign or beer might pop up. My luck they will put up the sign while I'm in mid-meal.

That's really a good idea. So simple, I'm surprised more of us haven't thought of that.

Thank God the folks at Moe's didn't get his order wrong! Who knows what could have happened. :D

That used to REALLY annoy me too when people would come up to you while you are eating your meal to ask you questions.
