I'm glad there is one happy camper with this.

Maybe you will be happy to know your other rights just

got taken away with this, too. Speech, guns, property,

whatever, glad you are happy.

We The People had nothing to do with it (for or against). That's the whole point.

We the majority of the people didn't want it. A few good things in there... a whole lot of bad.

Enjoy the new fundamentally changed America.

The R's had YEARS to address the issue and did nothing.

There is a reason the R's did nothing, because there was nothing that should have been done. Our Federal Government should have absolutely no role in our health system as specified by the 10th Amendment. The problem is that so many people, like you perhaps, think that every problem should have a governmental solution.

Health care was actually pretty cheap until the government got involved. FDR put a national freeze on salaries, which caused companies to offer health insurance as the only way they could reward their employees for good work. LBJ created Medicare and Medicaid sending an even larger pool of money into health care. Before these two developments, health care was consumer driven and the costs were what the market would bear. Now, with such a large pool of money available, costs have skyrocketed.

In countries that don't have insurance or goverment driven prices (e.g. India) modern health care is still relatively inexpensive. You can have a coronary artery bypass done in India for about the cost of a good used car ($10,000), expensive but not insane (yes, it's done in very modern hospitals with good equipment and competent personel).

The other problem we have is what we expect from "health insurance". We don't expect our home owners insurance to pay for our stopped up commode, our cracked kitchen tile or our leaky faucet. We don't expect our auto insurance to replace our tires or get our oil changed. However, we expect our health insurance to pay for normal day to day problems. Insurance, in general, was designed to take the catastrophic risks away from people, not to pay for normal problems.

ummm, sure, you go ahead and think that but it doesn't go into effect until 2014, though we start paying for it now...besides, do you think the gubbument really gives a flying crap as to whether you lose your health care or not? No, and it will happen all the same when the gubbament says,"hmmm, this guy sure is using healthcare a lot. Oh, he has cancer? Chemo, no, just give him an asprin."

How little you know me!

Anyway, the point is there legislation that could easily fall within the bounds of the constitution that could have been implemented. Look at polling data, a majority of Americans have thought there needed to be some legislation (even simple tort reform) for YEARS.

If you honestly think the R's didn't address any sort of health are reform out of respect for the constitution, well, then I guess we're living on different planets. The R's have attacked the constitution as much as the D's.

As for my opinions, I believe all forms of federal social programs (Medicare, Medicaid, SS, etc) are unconstitutional and should be phased out.

Those that believe that this is a "victory" of some sort for Americans are sadly mistaken. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is a tragedy that we have sunken to this level in both society and government. The government has no business meddling in the affairs of any private entity. That includes the banking industry, the auto industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the health insurance industry, or any other industry in this country that is providing a product or service that is legal to provide. Insurance is a product that you buy with your dollars; not a right that some government demagogue sees fit to grant you (...or to take away thru some idiotic rule that some activist can think up...) as a serf. You need to remember that whatever the government gives, it can take away. The democrats and republicans who are pushing the agenda of government intervention into whatever some rag-tag constituency seems to want at any particular time in history is nothing more than political pandering. This current administration along with congress has been the most corrupt and reprehensible that this nation has seen since the radical republicans of post civil war times. They are paying ever possible constituency, no matter how heinous and nutty, because they believe that their political survival depends on it (...the fact is that it does...). This great era of "hope and change" is nothing more than a series of anti-capitalist moves to pay back the various fringe constituencies that make up the demorat party.

There are those that believe that the problems with healthcare are linked to the tort law lobby (… one of the protected cows of the politicians because they have lots of money and clout… . You know; the guys who sue the doctors because of some mistake or imagined injury to some budding genius that somehow leaves him less than he was before the poor doctor tried to help him. …) and the meddling of government in the healthcare industry via Medicare and Medicaid.

The healthcare providers of this country have been demonized by the anarchist, socialists, anti-capitalist elites (...lots of politicians...), demigogs, ratty politicians, and the trashy to the extent that a pretty large fraction of people have been lead to believe that somehow the folks that are actually trying to help ease suffering and help people they don’t know are someway evil and are the enemies of the very patients they work so hard to help. This is, in my mind, is one of the most heinous lies ever hoisted upon the people of any nation. The people of the USA should be smarter than that. I am old enough to remember when health insurance premiums were about $200 per month for family coverage. That was before the extensive government meddling in the health industry and the damnable tort law lobby flowered. Lest some of you think that my health insurance is free; it aint. My premium in round numbers is about $1000 per month for family coverage. I don’t believe the government is going to lower my premium. Quite the contrary. If this debacle finally becomes law; it will raise premiums for everyone and provide an excellent “back door” arrangement to control behavior by the use of controlling clauses that could go like this:

1. If you own a gun; you could be an unstable nut and therefore a menace to society and a psychopath. No insurance benefit for you or your family.

2. If you are overweight; you are a gluttonous, selfish, chump and you are using up precious healthcare resources; therefore a menace to society. No insurance benefit for you or your family.

3. If you like to take a drink or smoke; you are an unacceptable health risk and a menace to society. No insurance benefit for you or your family.

4. You are over sixty years old (...or whatever age the bureaucrats decide...) and have a life threatening condition (... heart, liver, ms, etc). You are going to die anyway. Just go ahead and do it. No healthcare benefit for you.

5. On and on

As absurd as these things sound; they are entirely possible if we keep the kind of administration we have elected.

The people of this nation (…including the people of Tennessee, who elected Tanner and Cohen…) need to take reprisal on this trash that is currently sitting in high position in our government before we all become serfs. Remember, there is an election this november. Vote early and often!!

Food for thought.

Any chance we'll see anything like this in TN? And if so, will it hold water?

National Health Care Nullification – As of March 2010[update], 30 states have introduced legislation which would declare certain provisions of any proposed national health care bill to be null and void within the state; the legislation passed in Arizona, Idaho, Utah, and Virginia.[11] Such provisions include mandatory participation in such a system as well as preserving the right of a patient to pay a health care professional for treatment (and for the professional to accept it) outside of a single-payer system. Arizona's legislation passed as a proposed constitutional amendment, to be submitted to the voters in 2010.[12] On February 1, 2010, the Virginia Senate took a stand against a key provision of a proposed federal health care overhaul, passing legislation declaring that Virginia residents cannot be forced to buy health insurance. On March 17, 2010, the Governor of Idaho signed a bill requiring the Attorney General to sue the Federal Government if Idaho residents are required to buy health insurance.[13]
