Well crap... I just paid my "Stupid Tax" for 2007

Midway USA sent me an envelope of goodies today. I got two low-profile aluminum Wilson Combat mag baseplates and swapped them onto two of my #47D mags. They look a lot better in the bobtail than the ETMs do... so I guess that means I need a Gov't length gun for my other mags now.

They also sent me a nice Hi-Viz fiberoptic front sight for my XD9 Tactical. These sights always require a little hand fitting with a jeweler's file so no big deal. I set about to install it today and finally made the mistake I have avoided making for several sets.

I ran the file across the metal base twice too many times, and well... the sight is too loose in the dovetail.

I wonder if Hi-Viz or Midway will have mercy on me and let me get a replacement at a little lower price, or if I can consider this paying my Stupid Tax for 2007.

No chance the sight will fit in any of your other guns is there? Or is the XD sight specific to that gun?

What about putting on some JB Weld and letting that dry, then sanding that off as needed?

No idea how well that might work, but I have read of people doing that on 10/22s for a couple things.

JB Weld is awesome... I had a little Toyota truck with 370,000 miles that was practically held together with that stuff (and probably still is...)

And I patched up a hole in a Firebird's engine-block with it, from where a rod came thru, so that I could drive 80 miles home...

I'll hold on the JB Weld for now. I ordered another front sight and will just keep this one's fiber inserts as extras for the new unit.

JB Weld is awesome...

My nephews buddy has a Polaris quad with JB weld filling a hole on the motor, been there for a long time and still runs.

Loctite has a different formula that is for friction fits. It is used to hold light press fit items in place. We use it on pins and dowels in fixtures at work.

If you end up needing some I will bring you a bottle home from work. It does not have to be a press fit to work and it is a non permanent solution if you ever have to reverse it.

Just look at it this way: Now you have a free-floating action reactive sight, which moves with you!

I wish I had one of those.:hyper:
