I'm not sure they are claiming this is actual Damascus steel. More like a Damascus pattern or finish.

The art of real Damascus steel was lost long before our time. Many have attempted to duplicate the process, but all have failed.

Many, many people are producing Damascus (pattern welded) steels. The 'art' of pattern welding different steel compositons into a cohesive, contrasting billet & then working it into cool & funky items such as this, is alive & well the world over!

Damascus steel, or more correctly, Damascene forge-welded steel is quite simply a blend of different simple steels welded together in the forge, to benefeit from the different qualities of each. The pattern, originally speaking, is purely accidental. The pattern is revealed in a process of etching & polishing.

There are some spectacular forge-welders around today, producing very intricate mosaic patterns in steel.

There's even a trade-name, Damasteel, for stainless damascus (Which I suspect the slide to be)

Will the frame be built from the same type of steel stock? What kind of grips will you be adding to it...with 1k+ in a slide...you should find some truely exotic wood! I am looking foreward to seing the complete handgun.

I love those knives........Damascus steel has always been a favorite of mine. I've been trying to get my dad to make me a Damascus knife for years. I'm not so much a fan of the slide, but I certainly understand why Joe is so fond of it.
