I would imagine that it will shoot 55 grain just fine but with the 1 in 8, it will probably like a slightly heavier bullet. Its probably not going to be great with the 77 grain jobs but some middle ground like a 60 or 69 grain.

Of course, I am just guessing but trial and error has always worked best for me.

I'd recommend 62gr Brown Bear FMJ... it's heavy enough to take advantage of the twist, and cheap... but not crappy like Wolf.

Unfortunately though, if you want to practice with match-grade accuracy, you gotta buy the match grade ammo.

Another option would be to pick up some 68gr BTHP reloads from Georgia-Arms. They are very reasonable.

The Greenhill numbers on a 20" 1:8 .223 show stability thru 78g.

The military precision shooters seem to prefer the 77g M262 Mod1 loads through the 18" 1:8 SPR's. Black Hills manufactures the ammo and it is available to civilians as the 77g OTM (Open Tip Match)
