Accessories for an XD9sc.

Need some thoughts on Accessories, I just got an XD9sc. It’s going to be my EDC/Bedside. First I know everyone has their favorite holster but I looking more at material. I want to start with something more along the line of sticking it down in my waistband on a store run then all day carry. Which is easier on the finish Leather or Kydex? Which is easier to just deal with?

For bedside(not for carry) I’m think about a small rail mount tac light like this http://www.laserlyte.com/FlashLytes/WL_1.html will 25 lumens be bright enough for across the living room, or would something hand held and brighter be better?

I’m also considering a Crimson Trace since without bifocals I can barely make out the front sight in good light. How much do they change the grip on the XDsc (really like it now)? Anyone have one in the Knoxville area I could get a feel for or does anyone carry the LG-446 I could go look at? Thanks.

I have a Supertuck as well. General opinion is that kydex will rub localized spots on the gun while leather rubs larger spots. The "damage" to the finish takes longer with leather, but effects a larger area. Some judicious filing/sandpapering can help with the kydex. I suppose kydex would last "forever" and leather will wear out "eventually", but any good leather holster will last a long time.

For the light, I have the TLR 3 on the same gun. It's about the same price (I paid $75) and is very bright. For the holster, I wear the Don Hume - for $26 can't be beat.

Leather for IWB.

Kydex for OWB.

Heard nothing but good things about the Supertuck.

Plus +1 for me on the TLR-3 also. Super bright and very compact. Tough too. Accidentally dropped mine getting into my car onto concrete and then stepped on it. Not even a scratch and it shines bright as ever. Fits on my PT145 very securely. With the adapters that come with it it's even more secure.

I keep my XD SC9 under mattress at head of bed every night, but hope I have time to get to this:

Laser on XD SC? Whatever.

I'd suggest just a little more point and shoot practice at household distances, myself.

+1 that. You'd be surprised how well you can point and shoot that gun with a very soft sight picture that is threat-focused. A great firearms class taught me that.
