Basic NRA Pistol Instructor

I just took the "Basic NRA Pistol Instructor Course" at Austin's Tennssee Firearms in Oak Ridge and I have to say, wow was that an intense Friday from 4 PM till about 7pm Saturday but it was great. With a few hours for sleep. I dunno why we didn't just camp out.

I took the course to learn more about shooting and firearms and also to help friends and people I run across and doing my part to advance the 2nd and owning firearms in general. Honestly I have no master plan here except to better myself and hopefully others one day.

The quality of those attending was unreal and that certainly added to it. I certainly felt out gunned so to speak but I'm glad I did it and everyone was real nice.

The thing that really I didn't expect was the way the instructor part of the course is structured it brings up so many things that are relivant no matter how you use them.

A large part of it was about instructing others and also basically building a business and dealing with people. I now have in my head a lot more information than just about firearms.

A lot of public speaking in it. Something that has alway terrified me. I got somewhat better at that but still miles to go. I can think of all kinds of things. Put me infront of a group and I freeze. Well they didn't let me freeze and I got through that. I think just getting in there and doing it is the only option.

Lots on how to instruct people in the NRA techniques for proper saftey, use and stance of a firearms.

I really enjoyed it and am still very excited about it. I'd highly suggest it for anyone that is interested in firearms. I think it would help us to help as many others enjoy firearms as possible.

I'm not advertising as an instructor here cause it will be 40 days before I get my certification.

Sorry it took so long to get back. I took the "Range Officer Safety Course" today and it was great as well.

The cost of the "Basic Pistol Instructor" course and the "Range Officer Saftey" together was $480 plus about $40.00 to the NRA in fees and 100 rounds of ammo plus it's a full three days.

I'd highly recommend them.

Austin's Tennessee Firearms in Oak Ridge, is by far the best shop I have been in. I have been shopping for several weeks for my next buy, and have been in all the big shops. Found Austins on line and stopped in.they may be small but the service is AWESOME. I plan on taking the firearm instructor class and they also have a reloading class that I will be taking. And as for my next buy..XD9mm They were by far the cheapest. C.C…..G.M. not any more. Posted their web address for you

I bought my XD45 at Austin's a couple of weeks ago. Took my HCP class there as well. Highly recommended!

I'm going to the Basic Pistol Instructor and RSO class this summer when I get time.

Mike, is there a yearly NRA fee to retain your certifications?

You have to teach so many hours per year as well as a fee. I don't recall the cost of the fee.
