Youth Turkey Hunt

Recommended Posts

Anyone taking their youngun' on the youth turkey hunt March 27th & 28th?

My daughter is 11 and this will be her second year turkey hunting. She didn't get a bird last year, but we had fun hunting. We had hoped to get some trigger time on the Mossberg this weekend but the cold wet weather has postponed that. She doesn't like shooting the 3" turkey loads so we practice with #8 leftover dove shells. I only make her shoot a couple 3" loads for practice.

I really hope I can get a bird in for her on the youth hunt. We have a great place to hunt with lots of birds, we just have to get a good setup and do our part.

Me and my 7 year-old son will be there, with JCochran88 at the calls. We got a good spot I think. North Dickson Co.

My son killed his first at age 6. Missed a nice bird last year.

HAVE FUN!!!!

My Grandson missed a big ol longbeard I called in for him on last years youth hunt.

I believe he raised his cheek off the 20 gauge's comb, to see if he hit the ol tom...and, maybe a little shy of those 3" magnum turkey loads, may have played a part.

We are planning another hunt for this year...maybe he'll connect on a big un this time, I sure hope so.

Good luck to all, this season...and be safe!

This is the best hunt of the season for me. Their is nothing like that young hunter asking questions and the look on their face the first time that bird gobbles and starts heading in. Man it just fires me up.

There's nothing like it when a bird responds to your calls, and the kids can actually see the bird coming in. We watched his first bird come from 100 yds away, semi-strutting, and showing off. He was a jake, but he sure didn't realize it! Came in to within 10 yds and my son smoked him.

Can't beat it.
