I am looking at buying a sw99 in 40 cal. These look like the predecessor to the m and p series. Are these good guns and are they very accurate? Can you get holsters and accessories such as magazines for them? Give me honest reviews if you have or had one.

My dad has one of those and he loves it. I've shot it a few times too and for me it was very comfortable in the hand and very accurate. He thinks its a bit on the larger side so its not his EDC. I tried to talk him out of it when I was looking to buy but he wouldnt budge, lol. I know he's got a holster and a few extra mags for it and didnt have a problem finding them. If I had the money and came across one I'd buy it but thats me. Hope this helps.

They aren't a predecessor to the M&P, they are an American made version of the Walther P99. S&W became the sole importer of Walther firearms a few years back and decided to make their own version of the gun. They are good guns. I have shot a friends a few times. In my opinion a bit $$$$ for what you get, and I think there are much better options for the money, but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get one.

The Walther P99 mags fit the SW 99.

I have the 9mm version of this, it was accually my first gun. I use it as my main home-defense gun as it is a bit too big for me for carry. Its a little picky when it comes to some of the cheap FMJ stuff, but I have had no issues with the good hollowpoints at all. Otherwise its a great gun.

I think they are good guns...I really like them with the Quick Action or Light Double Action Only triggers. Though I do prefer my M&P

The main difference between the Walther P99's and the S&W is that the S&W is DAO. Fairly long and heavy pull like the Sigma as opposed to the M&P or Walther P99 (QA or AS)There are also come cosmetic differences, but nothing major.

I've got a sw990L in 40 cal.. bought it new about a year ago. It's a DAO model without a decocker. From what I understand it's similar to a P99 QA though I'm not totally sure. The information S&W send with it isn't really clear. Initially the trigger felt a bit gritty and the accuracy seemed a bit off but after 600 rounds the trigger is fine and accuracy has improved, or I'm just getting more familiar with it. All in all I'm really happy with it. Not so much as a problem with it. Use it for a carry firearm most of the time.

I have a sub-compact in 9mm that is accurate as can be out to 25 yds (about a 2 inch circle) and fits nice in a Glock 26 kydex IWB I use when I like to be discrete.

Nice gun, but I would not want it in .40. Too snappy a round for the size.

I loved mine. I had the 9mm version. regret ever selling it and will probably pick one up again at some point. Never had any issues and was very comfortable. I don't think you will regret getting one,

I had one of each in 9mm and .40 at one time. I had the .40 first, then traded it in on the 9mm. The 9mm was a little more manageable in rapid fire. Both of mine had the standard type triggers with the de-cocker on top of the slide. Both were easy to shoot and 100% reliable with a variety of ammo. I had no problems finding mags, etc. I only sold them because I got interested in another pistol (S&W 1911) and needed money. I am sure you can find them on gunbroker at a reasonable price. I think you will be pleased with it.
