I have scoured the internet for the past two hours and I cannot find a diagram/schematic for a J Steven Arms 26 "Crack shot" pat. 1913. The one that my family has is bottom lever, not side lever like all of the diagrams I have found. I have also consulted three local gunsmiths, none of which have found any helpful information.

I need to find this because the lever is not staying up once the hammer has been cocked. I believe that I am missing a spring or something like that and I have no idea where to find out what it is or what it looks like.

Any help would be appreciated. If you know of a gunsmith that is knowledgeable about J Steven Arms firearms in particular, I would really appreciate that contact information as well. Thanks.

Did you hit the Brownells site?

No luck on Brownells. They only stock two parts for the Savage 99. That's the closest thing I found.

Thanks for the great diagram! If you don't mind me asking... How did you find it?

I was able to locate exactly what was causing the lever to drop, unfortunately it was sloppy clearances from dozens of years of wear. I think that I'll have a friend TIG weld the pieces individually and then sand them very carefully to fit like they should. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase a new lever from everything that I've seen.

Thanks again for the help.

I use Ask.com. Just typed Stevens Crackshot into it and there it was. Glad to help.

If you go to the Numrich website, you can download any diagram for any firearms they stock parts for. I've found the actual factory drawings are more accurate than the general diagrams available elsewhere.
