No more mass gun burns

Recommended Posts

Well the Governor signed HB2376/SB2334 on the 4th of this month so no more guns get destroyed. If your not familier with this law it states that confiscated weapons can no longer be destroyed they must be sold saving thousands of guns from the melter.

AMENDMENT #1 requires the court to order that a weapon be destroyed or recycled if the chief of police, sheriff, commissioner of safety, or director of the TBI, depending on who confiscated the weapon, certifies to the court the weapon is inoperable or unsafe.

Hmmm. I wonder how many perfectly fine firearms will suddenly become "inoperable or unsafe" in certain jurisdictions where the CLEO isn't exactly pro-2A.

So the state is going in the gun business? :D

I think it is a good idea but I’m surprised they got it past the states lawyers; seems like a lot of potential liability.

I don't think it is the state, but each local department will be the ones conducting the sales. Seen in the new where the gun that was used in the pentagon shooting (same day as the bill was signed) was sold by either Memphis PD or Shelby Co SD? http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/newsworthy-reports/36873-memphis-police-shelby-sheriffs-office-sold-guns-used-pentagon-shooting.html

Of course some departments were already selling confiscated firearms, it's just now that they have to if the firearm is legal and funcitional and they don't keep it for law enforcement purposes.
