I carry one extra mag for my main gun and one or two BUGs. So I would suggest one extra mag per semi-auto. I carry my extra mag for my main in a Safariland model 123 horizontal magazine keeper like this:

It doesn't print and if it happens to show it's hard to tell what it is. I carry the extra mag for my Seecamp in a small knife sheeth that has a snap cover.

some wil say none, thats its bullet placement but just think of all those leo's videos where an officer empties his hg and still does not hit the bg.(they do this for a living folks)so i say all you can carry especially for all the single stacks.

i carry 2 spares + the one in my xd9(thats 48 rounds for those counting)

who ever robs me at the atm or quickie-mart is in for a hoot!

Just because a cop can't hit what he shoots at does not mean that a HCP holder can't.

Cops don't shoot for a living. Maybe I am wrong but I think HCP holders actively practice their shooting more so than cops do.

As for extra rounds I say whatever you are comfortable carrying is good. I keep extra ammo in the truck and I hope the 16 rounds in my 9mm mag will be enough.

Carry a spare mag 90% of the time. I don't carry more than that and honestly don't see myself carrying a backup gun anytime soon. There comes a point when you have to ask yourself, does this backup gun look right with the body armor I'm wearing or the Squad Automatic Weapon slung across my back? Or will carrying it make me look excessively paranoid to the sheep?

I do not carry an extra magazine. My current mags hold ten rounds.

(Can't justify paying $39.99 for two extra rounds, when I can buy

3 - 10 rd mags from CDNN for the same amount... shipped.)

When I travel out of state or long distances, I will usually carry one

extra mag. Sometimes two. But not on my person. But that is just me.

If you need more than one mag (the one in the gun) then you are in a situation that would demand more than an extra mag.

If you feel like you need an extra mag, carry a backup shotty and a SHTF bag at all times as well.

For me, it depends on the situation.

If I'm just running to Wal-Mart, I don't feel a need for any additional magazines. For general carry in a place I feel less comfortable (like a convenience store after dark), one spare is fine. I add more as the perceived threat potential increases.

On occasion, I carry four extra magazines.

I was talking to a friend the other day and he told me about a liquor store owner (an old guy) who carried a pistol on his hip...

he told me that one day, 2 young men came into the liquor store and were looking around and not buying anything...they left..and later came back, doing the same thing...then one of the young men asked the old proprietor

"are you a good shot with that thing?"

the old man deadpanned "nope, I'm not to tell you the truth, this thing holds 15 rounds, from here to the door I could probably only hit you with about 8 of those"...

the men left and never returned.

Two is one, and one is none. To me, a second magazine is insurance against mag failure or inadvertent mag drop.

If I think I'll need 2 mags, I'll carry 3.... and so on.

I've heard way too many horror stories about some guy bumping the mag in his pistol wrong and knocking the baseplate off and watching in a moment of morbid fascination and fear as the plate was followed by the spring, follower and remaining ammo. Carry an extra mag, what'd I learn in class? Fire to stop the threat, assess, and . . . reload.
