Car dealers, question

What's the deal with consumer blue book websites?

I've been truck shopping, and have noticed a big difference. I just looked up a truck on Edmunds, and Kelly Blue Book. I've also been watching these trucks (right down to brand, model, drivetrain, etc) sell for about a year now, so I feel like I know where the market is.

What gets me is the 'blue book' websites. For the exact same truck, spec'd out the exact same way, from a dealer, Edmunds.com valued it at 8,600.00 and Kelly Blue Book puts it at 15,900. I've seen them selling with similar mileage for about 12-13,000. Is there a blue book website that's accurate?

I'm really not sure I care anymore. I know what the trucks are selling for, and I know what the dealer wants for it. I'm sick of truck shopping, part of me wants to just lay out the asking price (1,900 over the highest book value) and drive it home.

Then the cheapskate inside of me starts throwing a fit and I'm back shopping again.

The banks used NADA to set finacing for sales. Most dealers use MMR or Black Book for setting wholesale. Edmunds and Kelly are worthless.

I work for the auto auction when not soldiering. Magiccarpetrides is a dealer and might chime in with his take.

NADA has a free service online http://www.nada.com/ . I would say it is more accurate than the others. But still the two dealers only services above set the real market 99% of the time.
