Return of the $300 AK?

Recommended Posts

I now own both and wouldn't be to quick to call either an ak or an ar junk. Each has their advantages. If i had to fight the mexicans off in Arizona I wouldn't trade the ak for my ar. If I was fighting in south Carolina or Hawaii during summer months I'm sure my ar would work just fine as long as I didn't get any salt water near it. Hahahahaha I'm partial to a quality ak.

I've love to have a nice polytech 56s myself. My friend's grandfather left him a stamped receiver Polytech 56s it was a beautiful rifle looked to barely be shot. He got on pills and it sold it to this sleazy pawn broker in town for $475. He did all this after I told him it was worth $800 easy what a freaking moron I could have whooped his butt.

and this is substantiated... where? :D

I know a few operators that admire the AK, but none of them would choice it for their combat kit. This statement pegs my BS meter

Your source is?

But don't get me wrong, I own both and admire them both for their functionality, fit and finish. My favorite AK is the Chino Type 84s in 5.56, but I would prefer M4 where the zombies knocking at the door...

Call a brother out over anything huh?

ok, maybe I mispoke... but every vet, thats faced the ak in combat, I have talked to loves the AK. I have been told some guys like them because of stopping power compaired to the 556, thus the reason for the existence of he 6.8cal. I even know where some guys used them back in the 1st gulf war, but heck they brought out a bunch of m14's for that one too. But I guess it depends on the mission. I heard Special Operations were the only ones allowed to use AK's back in Vietnam. Regular soldiers wanted too but were supposingly forbidden because the sound it makes, looking like enemy, and the CIA always booby trapped them. But many a vets told me they would rather have an AK.

In todays military there are lots of guys that like them, and even some tank/bradley crews that pick them up becasue they dont have m4's.

But hey, to each his own... I dont have time to go back and pull a bunch of links to try and prove something thats probably unprovable.

Naw, just a son doing his 3rd tour combat infantry in Iraq with the 3/2 Stryker brigade, a brother that did Desert shield/Desert Storm and 8 years in the Teams. I'm a poor civilian, always.

I'm just a student.

No intended fowl, Glockmeister. I only know what I've been told, like you.

The AK is an excellent arm. I just haven't met a member of our armed forces that would take it over an M4.

Phil you have watched too many Vietnam movies. :D

I was in the service during Vietnam, and while I was not in combat and did not face an AK, I was on an amphibious assault ship with 1000 Marines. We discussed the AK; none of them wanted one to use as a combat rifle.

As I said before the AK is a POS by design. The only thing it has going for it over an AR is the caliber. It’s a larger caliber than the AR but that only helps when you are close enough to hit the target. The AK certainly is not the long distance shooter the AR is.

The AR of today is far more reliable than the AR of the Vietnam era. But it’s still a .223.

If the AR had been 7.62 NATO, no one would ever choose the AK for anything other than maybe a boat paddle. :D

Of course I only have what i read and see, but i see a lot of the PMC's using AK's (as well as AR's) and some special forces using them. Of course I'm sure there are a lot of reasons for SF mainly being the BG not being able to know who exactly shot them.

I really like the AK and if it came down to it, I'm grabbing it first.

If they get back down the the $300 price-point we had a few years ago, you bet I'll buy a few... I wouldn't expect them to get any cheaper than that. What I really want is to buy a decent (non-Century built) .223/5.56 AK or two.
