Powerball doesn't penetrate very well in any caliber... and .380 is already pretty weak, as far as penetration goes. The best stuff I'd heard of was the Remington Golden Sabre in .380 (102gr FHP), then the loads from Federal and Speer.

EDIT: The Cor-Bon .380 DPX cartridges would probably do pretty good... but I recollect seeing a gel test and they didn't even expand half the time... so, I dunno if I'd recommend it or not without seeing some decent reviews with actual data.

I tried it in a P238,it would not feed.I dont think polishing would help but,Hornady critical defense worked well.

I have not shot any of my other .380's

I have been wanting to find some powerball in .45acp to try in my Ultra. If you see any, let me know. It may not expand quite as well, but if that hits someone, they will still not get up in my opinion.

I've looked around, but I can't find any in this area.

I use the 95gr Cor-Bon DPX in my MicroEagle. Seems to work well, even though I haven't dug it out of anything to test its expansion.

Hornady Critical Defense has better penetration and expansion tests than any other ammo out. Next in line is the Cor bon DPX. If I were going to carry a .380 these would be the only rounds I would use.

Check out this link. Goldenloki has performed gel tests with various ammo from a P3AT. In his tests, Remington Golden Sabers did not expand, at all. I seem to recall others getting similar results in various test mediums (water jugs, etc.) using Golden Sabers in their P3ATs. I know that Golden Sabers are supposed to be good stuff and they probably work well in other calibers - I guess they just don't get the velocities they need to expand out of a .380, or at least not a P3AT. Not sure I'd want to pay premium prices for something that might not expand any better than Remington UMC JHPs - or FMJs, for that matter. He hasn't tested Pow'rBall but has tested DPX and Critical Defense along with a few others.

I have heard a lot of good things about Critical Defense ammo. Interestingly, in GoldenLoki's tests, regular ol' CorBon 90 grain JHPs seem to have performed better than the Hornady stuff - giving better average penetration and expansion - while DPX and a few others seem to have performed pretty equally with Critical Defense. Speer GDHPs did really well, too.

Of course, this is just one set of tests. Others may get different results.

Hornady Critical Defense in my M&P9c and Hornady Critical Defense .357 in my SP101. Shot very well in both and all of the reports I have read seem to like it. Hard to find though.....
