is there a difference in accuracy for say one like Crimson Trace that goes on the side of the gun or one that replaces the guide rod?

Not really, as long as they are aimed properly. It's all about where the laser points to...

I have some Crimson Traces, I like them a lot. I'm no laser expert at all, but I have a G19 with CT's and a G17 with CT's and have had a blast with them both dry firing and at the range.

Laser max I have no idea, to hard to turn on in my opinion so that is where I stopped with them.

The CT's are pretty accurate. I tried to line mine straight out at 25 yards and that works pretty good. They are about a 1/2" to the right all the way through. I know that so I adjust when I use them and it's not like I'm a 1/2" accurate anyway .

The manual said to zero them at 15 yards I think but that put them over a 12" off at 25 yards.

As far as I see the Crimson Trace

The good:

-You can aquire a target fast with them.

-You can also make a very well aimed shot with both eyes open focusing on the target. And get a pretty good shot off even from the hip.

-For a training aid when learning to shoot and learning about jerking the gun for whatever reason one might jerk the gun they are invaluable. Takes dry firing practice to a whole new level.

-A laser painting the chest area is a very intimidating factor.

The Bad

-The Crimson Traces make even Glocks almost impossible to find a holster for. At best severly limit your holster for carry options.

-They don't work well at all in the sunlight

-I have a fear that the if I ever did "need" the CT for something more than the range the batteries would be dead. (The batteries on mine have lasted about a year) Shot maybe 500 round with that gun during that time.

Most people I have talked about lasers will trash them, yet ask them one question "Have you ever tried a laser" mostly the answer will be no. A lot of people that try them and don't like them never take the time to learn how to use them. It's a different disipline. Just like using a scope is different from using iron sights, a pistol is different from a rifle.

Whatever you get I hope you enjoy them.

I was talking with Phantom6 at Austin's today about the rear sight lasers. I think I will give them a try on my G26. I don't know why but I like putting lasers on my Glocks.

I use the crimson trace lasers on S&W M&P pistols and Glock pistols. I have had no problems with the lasers or finding holsters to fit the pistols with the lasers installed.
