well I am dispointed with remoil, it doesn't break the gunk from my stainless 22 pistol. I sparay it on my office chair every 2 weeks cause it always starts sqeaking again. I soaked my 20 ga single with it and I found it a couple of month later with a bunch of rust spots.

hoppes cleaner will really disolve that black gun buildup, but that buildup is much more noticeable on stainless guns than black ones

won't buy any remoil again, at least not for gun care if I do.

Rem Oil of course, is not designed to clean, but rather to lubricate and protect.

Though aj81557 dissed it, I've found Hoppes 9 and Rem Oil to be sufficient for all my guns, though I usually use CLP instead of the Rem Oil. Actually, there's no reason that motor oil wouldn't be adequate, and indeed many do advocate Mobil One synthetic exclusively.

Actually, I used to mainly use the Gun Blast stuff from Birchwood Casey on everything but the bore for cleaning, but can't easily find anything but the kind that has acetone in it lately. Since I melted a Butler Creek magazine with that stuff, I've avoided it.

OS had it. Rem Oil is not for cleaning. its a lubricant. Works fine for that purpose.

CLP is better for cleaning and lubing.

I also have jar of diesel and CLP mixed. Works great for leading on revolvers.

20 years ago on our range they used CLP as a cleaner and for lube. In my opinion it was a terrible cleaner as compared to the old Hoppes #9 powder solvent followed by CLP which was what I was using. Somewhere down the line they took one of the chemicals out of #9 and it was not as efficient. IA switched to Butches Bore Shine and that is what I use today. If I run out, I buy Gun Scrubber. Either one is still followed by the CLP for me.
