I was hoping someone could help me with this. I have a large amount of 265 grain bullets (lead) I usually use for .44 mag loads. Does anyone have a suggestion for amount of Unique to use if I want to load the 265 gr lead bullet into a .44 spcl case? Thanks

I would try 7.0 grains of unique. The old time working load for a 44 special is 7.5 of unique with a 240 to 250 grain bullet. The 7.0 grain load is just a ratio to that (250/265). Having said that; i would only shoot these reloads in a full size revolver. We use the 7.5 grain load with 250 grain SWC's in n frame smiths, ruger sa, and colt saa all the time. I'ts pretty heavy; about 900 fps. If you want it lighter, go down to 6.5 grains of Unique.

Hope this helps.

Just a little note to let you know my gun did not blow up? I shot some 240's I loaded, and the 265 with 6.5 grains, all worked well, I think I will go up a little on the 265's, they shot a little lower than the 240's. Course I shot the first few with a heavy leather glove on, glasses, and a face guard, couldn't see the sights too good!! Thanks Leroy

Great to hear!! I like the 265 grain bullets for both the 44 and the 45 Colt.

Keep up the good work!

Kind regards,

Leroy

I haven't reloaded the 45 colt yet, but since I picked up a public defender, and checked the prices on .45 colt, I may have to. First I am going to see if I keep the pd or trade it away, I am not too happy with the grips, I am waiting to see if anyone comes out with a better one. The ribber grips that come on it force your hand real high, and that sucker will bite your second finger, especially with the shotshells, shoots good, though.

Man, them are some monster killer loads. I wanna try some 'lil gun in my .357 Security Six. I like the Dry Creek Bullets 170 gr. Keith type bullets. I used to load Sierra 170 gr. hp. But they were loaded with 13.5 gr. 2400 and they seemed pretty light. Shot really good though. 1" and less groups at 25 yards.

I haven't tried that yet, I use bullseye, and Unique, I was thinking of trying power pistol. With both of the powders I use, a double load would not overflow the brass, some of them will, so it would be easy to see an overload. I use a powder check on the press with the least dependable powder measure (lee), the other powder measure I use, Hornady, has never ever deviated more that .10 grain.
