Public Law No. 110-181 changes Section 9 of title 4, United States Code, by striking "all persons present" and all that follows through the end of the section and inserting the following: "all persons present in uniform should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute. All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Citizens of other countries present should stand at attention. All such conduct toward the flag in a moving column should be rendered at the moment the flag passes."

Even as a younger member of our nation's armed forces, I feel better executing a proper salute than simply standing at attention. I'm a civilian 90% of my time, but every day when Kix106 plays the national anthem at noon, I face the flag and render honors. Now I can do it the way I was trained to, even if my uniform is hanging in my closet. :D

I was watching the N ass car race Sun and at the beginning when they sung the Anthem half of those jerk wads:screwy: were goofing off, talking or just off in la la land. I would say less than half had their hands over their hearts, and that was with a color guard and the Blue Angels flying over and who knows how many military personnel around them. I tell you that IRKED me in a bad way!!!!

I really get pissed off when I see one of the drivers with military sponsorship (Army, NG, USAF) just standing there. They'll take the taxpayer money (and that is where the money comes from) - - - but won't honor the service who's name is all over their suit and car.

Getting back on topic. I like the hand salute by military & vets. I do wonder if one should remove their headgear (indoors) or salute with heargear (outdoors) as per your service's regs.
