Audio-wise, his voice is quite soothing. Think it was from the time as Gov of CA?

You didn't applaud me for doing it right, Jack. Come on, now:D

He was a great speaker.

No, it was from 1961. some group like the coffee club? When he was a democrat.

Megan Kelly was just talking to Jonah Goldberg and some dem strategist about the

tea and cookies Obama is sharing with the republicans and mentioned this ad as a

"most viewed". Lamar was politely getting in Obama's face about costs on the rape of healthcare. I was impressed, since it was Lamar.

Actually Reagan had abandoned his democrat loyalty quite a few years before that. He began his transformation and formulated his conservative ideals while hosting the GE Theater show during the early 50's.

But it is true Reagan was a democrat, and a liberal one at that, for a long time. In fact he described himself as a 'hemophiliac liberal', saying he 'bled for causes'. :screwy:

It was around the time of this speech that Reagan wrote what was to become known as 'the speech', which catapulted him to national prominence as a political force when he gave the speech all over the country culminating at the 1964 Republican National Convention. The speech outlined his ideals for a more conservative approach to government. Many said that Reagan the actor was essentially mouthing what had been written for him. In fact though he had written nearly all of the speech himself. At the time most republicans were far less conservative than Reagan and for the rest of his life he was the one pulling most of his allies to the right from their center to slightly center right stances. He had very few confidants during that transition period who made the transition with him. Most of them never entered politics, like Mark Selko. Some of them did like Lyn Nofziger who eventually became press secretary and advisor to Reagan the governor and president.

Thanks Warbird! I didn't know that stuff. I knew my dad

really did like him. I figured out why when I started

paying attention to politics. It only took the first speech

to start liking him, kept getting better after that.
