I don't see how they would lose thier child over that... Nothing illegal or harmful in any way.

People here know this and would surely have them out of reach of the little ones but it's the panic inducing idiots out there that would have a field day filing all sorts of child endangerment charges because of that pic. I do, however, like the comment below it. :stare:

In another lifetime...I had to deal with the Do-Gooders at DCS...for OMG!!! spanking a child...you DO NOT want to mess with these  drinking fools. When these bozos get INVOLVED in your personal life...it only goes one way...their way...and they bring the police with them just for intimidation.

I had an incedent with my daughter about 20 years ago when she was 3 where she got burned in the bath tub and the doctor rightfuly reported it, because it could have looked suspicious, and when dcs came they stayed way back to because of the beware of dog signs and about 10 rotwielers, atleast until the sheriffs showed up, which was when the wife freaked:panic:. They agreed with the way the incident could have happend by accident but they did follow ups and they never go away, we were always on thier list. Thankfully we never had another suspicioud incident.

My wife once worked with the DEDE Wallace Center and had to deal with DHS pretty frequently. Thirty years ago they were a well meaning agency an did a lot of great work, But in this liberal, nothing goes world today, just saying "spanking" or trying to discipline a child in public will bring a world of hurt on you.

Something like that picture could bring everyone from DHS to BATFE down on you because someone didn't like the picture. "Why that child is in an intolerable evviroment with all those nasty old assult maching guns lying around for him to get into. He will probably shoot himself playing at best or grow up to think those ''illegal"

things are good at worst."

We have to be careful in even jokingly posting pictures these days.

I have to fight DCS all the time (as an attorney) and I can tell you they do employ some folks that would freak out over this photo.

On a side note, One of my own neighbors tipped me off that one of my other neighbors owns a (gasp!) AK-47. She knows I own a few guns but still expected me to be alarmed. I was very laid back when I informed her that it is actually a common gun and is probably a perfectly legal semi-automatic version that is really no more dangerous than your average hunting rifle. I also mentioned that as long as the neighbors are responsible, I'm more concerned with them keeping their dog off my lawn than what kind of gun they own.

Back on the subject; even if there is nothing wrong with the photo, I certainly wouldn't post it online.

We aren't all :koolaid: drinking fools. I more than likely hold many of the same values as yourself, so lets not get quick to judge. Some of the things we see everyday are horrible, and while I'm not one to take LE with me often, sometimes we never know what we are getting ourselves into. You wouldn't be fond of walking into a meth lab without LE either (you don't have to tell me this wasn't your situation).

I like the pic.

I've been in the worst places on earth, and I do not get intimidated, ever.

I dare ANYBODY to F with my family...EVER.

Most of us do our very best to preserve the family that we are working with. Its a very, very bad day when we have to make the decision to remove a child from their parents. I will do my job, but never "F" with anyones family for no reason.

I understand that no one wants me on their doorstep. I am as respectful as I can possibly be. I do what needs to be done, then I am done.

Its interesting how everyone loves to hate Children's Services, yet we "never do enough" for them when they need us themselves.

Kinda know how LEOs feel when they get bashed now....

As for the picture...I don't consider it child abuse or neglect. I don't believe that the photographer used much common sense either. We all understand and realize what can happen if that chamber was mistakenly overlooked. Can't go on what if's. Thats were responsibility of the parent comes into play. If somone sat the child down with a bunch of empty vodka bottles it would look bad too, but doesn't mean the child drank it all or that the child was at a party not being watched or anything else other than a picture. Is the picture a good idea? I think thats already been determined.

It IS a thankless job you do...but it is definitely something that you HAD to anticipate going in. I doubt people are EVER happy to see you show up. That said, there certainly are alot of crazies who love to come after kids out there, and protecting those who can't protect themselves is a sacred duty. Thanks for doing what you do.

I knew exactly how it was viewed by most people. Most of it is a lack of understanding of what exactly we do, and our "secrecy" aka confidentiality doesn't help our case very much. That will never change, and understandably so because no one else should know your business. Its not done for thanks, its done for the kids.

not sure if it has been mentioned but some states have laws where firearms have to be locked and away from under people(mainly children I "think") and if something happened with hte firearm, the parents can be charged. now this is certain staes and they will each be different
