My brother has been shooting with my a few times. That in and of itself is a HUGE deal. Many many moons ago he was standing right next to a cousin who put a .38 slug into his own head playing around with a pistol...brother got splattered if you know what I mean.

I've been working on him for a few years now...getting him over his issues with guns...taking him shooting, etc.

Yesterday I took him to Guns and Leather and helped him pick out his new Gen 4 Glock 17.:D:D

I also did some horse trading and came home with a gently used Sig 239 in .40 with a .357 Sig barrel.

Thanks to Ben and everyone at Guns and Leather...part of his decision to actually buy his own gun was how friendly the people he met up there have been to him...answering questions, letting him fondle the merchandise...etc. He feels comfortable going up there without me along.

Congratulations on showing your brother a good use for a gun. You helped him overcome a lot of "stuff" by doing that. A wound to a big scar. Takes a lot of patience to do that.

Congrats to you and your brother. It must be nice to be able to barter with your gun dealer. My former dealer always treated me like crap (10 gun purchases). They always had a take it or leave attitude. I guess I was a glutton for punishment. I hope that you and your brother enjoy many years of shooting.

Awesome, we need to convert more.

I know i use to be intimidated by guns. But now, that i have had experience with them, i am much better. Whenever i handle a new gun i try to fool around with it and make sure it is unloaded while doing so. That way, when i go to load/shoot it i have an idea what to expect. And if i am not sure about something, i never have a problem asking anyone. And so far, no one has looked at me weird when i have asked a question, even if it was a kinda of dumb question. Better to ask, than to make a mistake with a gun.

I think one of the biggest things in getting people converted is professionalism and courteousness. When they see that gun owners aren't all toothless hillbillies, but most are friendly, upstanding citizens, I think that helps tremendously. It's one of the many reasons why I will not give a dime to any dealer who acts like the customers are below them.

It's gets better...he came to me today wanting to take the NRA Basic Pistol course..and is thinking about getting his permit. I was actually speechless.

I figured he was talking about "one day" taking the class...untill he handed me the 100.00 class fee
