I knew both of these Army Aviators, but especially CW2 Grinder and members of her family.

I was happy to signed off on Billie Jean's flight school packet as the Master Aviator recommendation. Later it was my honor to approve her Federal Recognition to CW2. She was a kind and sweet young lady.

I will miss both of them....., and yet we Cavalrymen know that someday we will meet again at Fiddler's Green and there, together, we will fill our canteens.

Faith Honor and Courage that is what we are taught. Have Faith in God, Honor for your Country and Courage to defend them. I have a Nephew just deployed to Iraq from the 278th guard unit here in Tn. MY prayers and my gratutide are with this young Soldiers Family.

Billie Jean Grinder, age 25, a loving and devoted wife, stepmother, daughter and sister, died Sunday, February 21, 2010 in Iraq as a result of a helicopter crash. She was a 2002 graduate of Smyrna High School and joined the Tennessee Army National Guard in July 2002. CW2 Grinder became a pilot in 2007 after completing Warrant Officer School at Ft. Rucker, AL and quickly excelled in her skills. She was currently a Pilot-In-Command (PIC) for OH-58D Kiowa Warrior and assigned to C Trp, 1-230th ACS.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1P.M. with COL(P) William P. Wenzler officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the TNARNG Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Marcus Ray Alford, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, Regions Bank (Village Green Branch) in Gallatin, TN.

Capt. Alford perished with WC2 Grinder in the accident.
