Gun cleaner that doesn’t stink?

Recommended Posts

I’m tired of this battle with my wife. “Smells†give her headaches. ;) Specifically the smell of Hoppes #9.

I’m not going out to the garage every time I want to break out some gun cleaner.

Problem is that I have never found anything that works as well as letting parts soak in #9 overnight.

So have you guys found anything that is available in large containers (Quart, Gallon) that is priced reasonably and doesn’t have a smell?

I thought Hoppes #9 was an aphrodisiac:rolleyes:. Appears that you are banished to the garage. Glock armorers video shows a tank with Simple Green. I think that stuff stinks,

too.

I am compromising. I’m probably going to buy something that won’t work as well as the #9 but doesn’t stink. But I’m sure not going out in the garage.

So far it looks like I’ll give the M-Pro 7 at $55 a gallon a try. I have “Break Free†CLP and it while it works good as a lube, it won’t cut it for cleaning.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. thumbsup.gif

Hoppe's Elite Hoppe's 9 - Elite Gun Cleaner

I tried it out on my Ball & Chain and she didn't smell a thing, I cleaned 4 pistols while she was out and didn't say anything when she came home.

Say's Scent Free on bottle, cleans down to the pores.

+1. I was fighting the same battle. Now I can clean guns with her right next to me and don't hear a peep about the smell.

One never KNOWS what a woman does or does not like, on any particular day. Ask your wife to accompany you to the gun store and have her do the "sniff test" on all the cleaners/lubes. This simple act will prove to her that you have a deep and abiding love for her and put her concerns above all else. She will never suspect that you will use this as leverage for those two new pistols you have on layaway.:)

Mil-Comm TW25B and Slip 2000. Neither one stink and both are excellent lubricants. For a oil Slip 2000 is the best I have ever used. It is great on semi-auto pistols and it is fantastic on AR's.

For a cleaner the MPro 7 works great and has no odor either.

Instead of Hoppes#9, I'd try Wife #2
