Survival Skills not Stuff

I've had my Wilderness First Responder since 2002. This is the best First Aid you can get at a reasonable price, for a SHTF scenario. The next step up is Basic EMT. The good thing about WFR is that it cover alot of the first aid stuff and you have to learn how to take vitals, set up a litter basket, and the entire series of figure 8 knots.

Which I would also add the a thorough knowledge of knots to any list of survival skills.

I know someone already mentioned volunteering with a boy scout troop, but I would suggest getting the boyscout hand book. It has a lot of great basics to start you off and you can use it as a jumping off point for research prior to shtf. The extra junk in the book can also be used to aid in the starting of a fire.
